All American Dinner at Zak’s Yankee Diner

It’s become a bit of a tradition to crash Dann’s Mother’s holiday in Waxham Sands each summer. She has a tradition of caravanning in Waxham Sands Holiday Park, but as we aren’t really a caravan family, Dann, our kids and I normally stay somewhere nearby. This year, that was extremely close to Zak’s Yankee Diner – an American style diner with tons of American classics. I’ve been to a few American Diners in Great Yarmouth, and they haven’t really impressed me, as an American who’s been to diners in America. With that said, I had hopes for Zak’s Yankee Diner, especially as they have three locations and have been going since 1976!

Dalston Deli – Freshly Made Focaccia

[Ad- gifted experience] Focaccia bread trended during lockdown, with so many people learning how to make bread. It’s soft, it’s delicious, it’s often quite satisfying to eat. Dalston Deli has taken focaccia bread, baked daily, and created a bunch of packed sandwiches that are filled with fillings and sauces made in house. Their focus on freshness is reflected in the number of sandwiches they have each day; only 50! So pre-ordering the sandwich you’d like is heavily recommended.

Celebratory Dinner at Sevine Brasserie

Sevine Brasserie, a stylish new Mediterranean food stop, opened up last year in the Water Gardens in Harlow! It’s a place that Dann and I have walked past dozens of times, looking like a great, upscale lunch, brunch and dinner venue. Often, there are people enjoy coffees outside around lunchtime and drinks in the evening. They have really ramped up this year, providing a lot of outdoor music and entertainment for the local community. Dann and I both kept saying we would eat there soon, so when I finished and submitted my book to my publisher at the start of this month, it felt like it was time to eat somewhere new, and Sevine Brasserie came to mind!

Family Dinner at Ole Rochester

While going to an event in Rochester, we wanted to go out for a nice meal! Dann got to picking a location, and as I had just gotten back from Madrid, he figured having a bunch of Spanish food would be fun. Dann’s grandmother is Spanish, so he had Spanish food growing up, however we don’t make much Spanish food and often don’t eat it. Dann excitedly selected Ole Rochester and it was a fantastic decision.

Family Dinner at Gonzos Tea Room

At the end of May, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary of being a family. Five years feels impossibly long, and we spent a lot of time this year reflecting on our lives. One of the things Dann and I wanted to do was re-visit our first family outing. You see, the first time we went out as a family unit, we went to the Norwich Gaming Festival and then had dinner at Gonzos Tea Room! At the time, Robin was so little that she didn’t really eat (nor does she remember much of it), where as Kai and Amelia had a very limited pallet. Going back with them being so much older was such a fantastic time and the food did not disappoint!
