Exploring the Coventry Christmas Market

It’s officially the time of Christmas Markets in England! Dann and I had already ventured to one of the ones in London, which was very crowded and very much like a London Christmas Market. With that in mind, we wanted to take our children to one, so we picked the Coventry Christmas Market which felt like it had more room! This market had just opened the day before, so we were excited to see what it is like as none of us had been.

The Coventry Christmas Market is right in their town centre. On the day we went, it was a bit soggy, which was pretty average for England. The area that these stalls were in was very spread out, with a giant ferris wheel at the center. Behind it, there was a giant wall of lights that showcased dancing Santa’s, falling gingerbreads, rainbow lights and so much more, making for a beautiful backdrop. We all really enjoyed the decorations and the beautiful tree at the back as well! In traditional market fashion, many of the buildings themselves were little wooden huts that had all sorts of stuff in it.

Our goal was to eat our way through Coventry Christmas Market – starting with cheese samples! We ended up purchasing a cheese with mango chutney throughout it, which was Kai and Amelia’s favorite. Robin loved the cheddar in a star shape, but we always have cheddar at home. We then had some chicken noodles from the Noodle cart, with Robin picking out some fries that had katsu chicken curry on it. We grabbed some tornado potatoes, which feel like a classic Christmas Market food, in both BBQ flavor and All Seasoning flavor. During these first few things, we were grabbing some of the food then walking to the cover and eating out of the rain, but it started subsiding!

We then ramped up eating; a chicken burger with lots of spice was tried by Kai, some BBQ pork fries is what Amelia picked. Robin got a full roast dinner in a yorkshire pudding wrap, which was half eaten by Dann. We all shared some traditional German sausages because they are fantastic always. We were properly full, so moved to desserts. Robin and Kai got massive cookies, Dann got a big beer, and I got an Oreo bubble waffle ice cream. Amelia went for some churros with white chocolate and oreo bits. We decide to not ride the giant wheel due to the rain and fact that it was a bit wet – plus we were full and ready to go home.

The Coventry Christmas Market is a smaller market then the Birmingham one, which is not to far away, but it’s got plenty of space and a good Christmas Market feel. It does make me wish that our hometown used the back of the Water Gardens to host a Christmas Market of this scale, as there is plenty of space to do it! It feels almost as if this market could fit near our town.

This looks great! I’ve been to the Birmingham markets a few times but it can get so crowded that you’re just getting swept along with a sea of people. This sounds like a calmer alternative, even if it is a bit smaller.

I LOVE Christmas markets! My husband can take them or leave them, but I still drag him every year. LOL. This one sounds like it’s just the right size for me, actually.

I love a good Christmas market. I think the Coventry market sounds great. HUGE markets are fun, but sometimes, it’s almost too much.
