[Ad – Gifted Products] When it comes to card games, I really do love card games that are in a tin! The Dog Man: The Hot Dog Card Game is one such game – the tin making it very easy to bring out and about with you. I find card games like this to be perfect for little moments between activities, as the game itself isn’t that long, but it’s an entertaining and fun one where everyone can play together. If you aren’t familiar with Dog Man, the comic book character, this game is still fine to play.

Essentially, all of the cards need to be shuffled out and displayed out on a big table. You do need to make sure that you have a lot of playing space for this card game, as we took up a large table of four and it was quite chaotic. When all of the cards are spread out, you then start to play the game! Each player takes a turn flipping over one card. If this card is a hot dog, which they primarily are, nothing happens and it stays face up. Then, the next person goes. If Petey the Cat gets turned over, all of the face up hot dogs need to be put face down. If there are no hot dog cards, then Petey goes into discards. If Dog Man is revealed, all players must scramble to grab hot dog cards! This is done with one hand, grabbing and placing one into your score pile, until all revealed cards are played.

We found that the best way to play was to eliminate the Petey the Cat cards as soon as they messed up the round! I think they could be used in a more strategic way, but with Robin and Amelia, we were all more interested in the chaotic elements of it. The number of Dog Man cards feel very good and we do like how many hot dog cards there are throughout the deck. It’s a simple game to set up and play, though as a warning, younger players might cheat!

Robin had a bit of trouble not grabbing several cards with both of her hands, but after a few games, she did get the hang of it. It’s one of those things where when it’s within the moment, and you play with kids, they might get excited and cheat. It’s still such a fun game and Amelia and I were forgiving. Amelia got really into grabbing and placing down the cards, making sure to only reveal cards near her, which was well done. Dog Man: The Hot Dog Card Game is a simple concept, but great for fans of the comic or younger children looking for a new game to check out.
