Seeing Owls at Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation

Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation

[Ad- gifted experience] We all really love owls! Our children’s school does photos with owls, Dann has done an owl walk, and all three of our children have spent a lot of time asking about owls and if we can have owls. We were overjoyed to hear that we could get close to and learn about a few different types of owls at Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation!

Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit location that has a bunch of different rescue animals; huskies, eagles, meerkats and more. You can get up close to these various animals through these types of presentation days or VIP days. The VIP days come in a bunch of different options; hiking with huskies, exploring the facilities and feeding all of the animals, and staying over night, just to pick a few. You can even do an owl experience with the owls that we got to be around today!

In the owl presentation, we got to see three different owls after dark. The first of which was a classic looking owl, one we have all seen before. There were two members of staff that were walking around, with one of them constantly talking about the owl on show and the other calling the owl to them. The owl would then fly from the presenter to the member of staff in the crowd, who would let us look at the owl really closely! It was super fun to see the owls fly, glide and walk.

The second owl to come out had tall ears, a different look than other owls. We also got to hold this owl at the end of the night for a picture – which Robin ended up doing, since she had so many questions to ask about owls. This owl was roughly the same size as the previous, but had different colors and facial features. The presenter explained many facts about owls hunting, what they do in the wild, and about different types of owls. He spoke about telling them apart from each other and about life for them. It was really interesting and to keep things engaging, beyond having the owls fly around us, he also was asking the audience questions and allowing audience members to shout out questions at him to direct the conversation.

The third and final owl was a huge one from Siberia! This massive white owl wouldn’t land on any humans, due to how massive their body was, and instead was flying from perch to perch. This one even did a bunch of running along the ground, which was really a site to see. It’s one of those things that you just need to experience in real life; a massive owl running. This final owl was all of our favorites. It was just a really charming owl! The entire staff at Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation clearly loved their jobs and knew everything about these animals. It was a lovely experience.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
