Find the Color Outdoor Walk Craft

Summer holidays are in full swing, and we are looking to get the most out of our summertime! While the weather is lovely, we wanted to take more time to explore nature. We tend to explore a lot of nature through playing Pokemon Go or going on photography walks, but Robin often finds that she doesn’t want to interact with technology when out in nature, but gets bored quite quickly. So, we made these little Find the Color craft boxes so that she could find different leaves, flowers, rocks, and feathers that fit these colors, and place them into the box.

This craft is really easy – all you need is a leftover egg carton, some paint and some paint brushes. We picked a bunch of bright colors for our first egg carton, and stuck with an egg carton that only had six eggs, as that’s easier to carry. We then painted the inside of each of the egg spots with a different color and let them dry. That’s it really – now you have a perfect little box to collect your treasure while exploring in nature! I ended up making one for Robin and one for Amelia as they often like doing these types of activities together, and it was a hit!

The colors that we picked would be perfect for a flower filled walk, but you can pick a bunch of shades of green for places that don’t have many flowers. Browns and oranges if you want to focus on collecting rocks or add in some greys if you want to focus on collecting feathers. There are so many options and after walking around a few times I am sure that you will have ideas for more of these painted parts.

Robin and Amelia very quickly picked out all of their plants and rocks that matched the colors in the box, then dumped out everything and started again, getting new items and comparing them to each other. This craft took maybe 10 minutes to create, and provided about an hour and a half of play, as we walked around and collected colors.
