Doughnut Time’s Gingerbread Doughman DIY Kit | Review

We have been making the various Doughnut Time kits all lock down, checking out the Cookie Dough Sando and the Design-Yo-Own 2.0, impressed with the idea of creating our own donuts and putting them together with various bits of decorations. Doughnut Time then announced a few different festive donut kits – so I am sure this won’t be the only one featured during Blogmas! The Gingerbread Doughman DIY Kit is actually a vegan kit where you get to fill your own doughnuts – something we were very excited about!

This kit came with four Gingerbread Doughmen – which are donuts shaped like little gingerbread men, a few bags of biscoff spread – which can be used to fill your gingerbread donut hybrid, a couple of bags of ginger caramel glaze, a little vanilla glaze, some chocolate buttons and chocolate balls, edible eyes and Christmas-themed sprinkles. Whenever we get Doughnut Time kits, the first thing you notice is the smell. From the moment you get the package, the smell of delicious, freshly baked donuts really take over the room!

We have never stuffed donuts before, but the box game with some tips, as well as a few different cards to thank you for ordering. I ended up using a chopstick to create a slightly big whole in the donuts, before stuffing them with the filling. Many of them did get overfull and leak some filling, but when you are making your own donuts, it’s all fun and nobody is looking for perfection. When it came time to decorate the donut, I used the ginger caramel glaze to outline areas I wanted, then filled them with the biscoff spread. I should have listened to the instructions and let this sort of set, but I didn’t, adding in more and more frosting and glaze as it seeped down the sides.

I used the vanilla glaze and various toppings to create different details within the Doughman, which was very fun to do, even as it melted away. The ginger caramel glaze was very spiced, which was super interesting for a glaze, and the biscoff spread was exactly how you would imagine it – sweet, which balanced out that spice. The chocolate buttons in the Gingerbread Doughman DIY Kit are lovely, dark chocolate of course, however we found the chocolate ballers to be a bit to bitter for us. The Christmas sprinkles provided were fun ones, looking like holly, which is very fun to place around in little groupings.

As always, we had a great time making these donuts together after dinner. I find these kits to be so lovely when it comes to building memories together and spending time together – especially as it’s a new thing to do with the family, that’s quite easy to set up all thanks to the kit!

This post is a part of our Blogmas series, with each and every post being about Christmas or Winter.
