A Day Out to Herne Bay Pier

Herne Bay Pier

We do spend a lot of time at the beach! As someone who grew up landlocked, I really just love the beach and the sounds of the ocean. As we have three children that all love swimming about and playing in water, they love going to the beach too. We have a local beach we really love going too, but with so many sunny days in a row, we wanted to check out somewhere new and found Herne Bay Pier!

Herne Bay Pier is a bit of a less busy beach, with large rocks! It reminded all of us of Brighton, though there were tons of different rainbow beach huts, and many with large paintings across them. The ocean itself felt cool and nice, with lots of long seaweed. The sand inside the water was soft, which was a surprise, and there wasn’t much sea life there beyond the plants. Right next to the beach, there is a small pier that’s perfect to walk along.

Herne Bay Pier has all of the classics. There is a middle area that has a bunch of local sellers, selling various bits and pieces from homemade art to beach-themed garden decorations. Around that are a bunch of different food stalls; beer, pizza, thai food… There actually was a lot of different food options which was a surprise! We had packed a lunch, but would go back there to eat in the future. At the end of Herne Bay Pier there is a bunch of little rides. These rides are done through a token system, where you need to purchase tokens before going on.

Amelia and Robin really enjoyed going on the large trampoline, which allowed them to jump super far into the air! Kai was too big for most of the rides at the end, and also not so interested as he is a teenager. There was also a big area of trampolines and balls, a large slide, and classic rides like a merry-go-round. At the very end of the pier there were a bunch of people crab fishing too. Many were using lures to pull crabs up the pier, adding them into buckets. We saw a few of these buckets and bate combinations that could be purchased on the pier too.

Herne Bay Pier is quant and little, but big enough for a little day out with your family. It doesn’t feel too crowded or too expensive to go on the rides. We had a fun afternoon there – the only negative was it’s hard to find parking!

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!

It sounds like Amelia and Robin had a blast on the large trampoline, reaching new heights of fun! It’s understandable that teenagers like Kai might not be as interested in some rides, but it’s great to know there were other activities like crab fishing and classic rides to enjoy. Exploring the pier and seeing people crab fishing must have added a unique and memorable touch to the day. Thanks for sharing this fun adventure!

It must be lovely to have a beach nearby although also good to discover other ones. I’ve not been to Herne Bay. It sounds like a fun place for a family day out especially with the rides and shops.
