When it comes to crafting and drawing, Robin is always looking to do more of it! Though she isn’t the perfect age range for the HeyDoodle mats, I asked them about it and she really wanted to try one out. These silicon mats come with their own set of markers, allowing children to draw and color, then allowing parents to wipe them away so that they can try again.

The Into the Wild mat specifically is aimed at toddlers, as a learning tool so that they can practice letters and recognizing the names of animals. There are different animals for each of the letters in the alphabet. The animals are quite fun, like jelly fish and x-ray fish, along with unicorn and narwal. It’s just a mix of fun characters that can be easily understood and colored in. Robin wanted to color with me, so we both took turns coloring in different animals on the sheet with the provided markers.

There are plenty of different colors within this set, including pinks and purples which we used a lot of! The characters do take a bit of time to dry, otherwise, you will end up having lots of marker all over your children’s arms – something we found out the hard way as Robin ended up covered in ink. The mat itself also can end up moving a bit the first time you use it, due to the creases, but if you leave it out overnight, it loses those marks in no time and can sit much flatter.

The HeyDoodle Into the Wild mat is a very good idea. The marker is easy to wash off, giving it a new life. The fact that it is silicon makes it fun to use as a table mat under food. I can see a lot of toddlers getting good use out of the letter learning as well. Robin also really enjoyed coloring in the characters and then getting a second go when she washed it away – it’s a toy she wanted to keep and play with more, which I was a bit surprised at if I am honest! There are also a bunch of other designs, for those who might be into fire trucks or fairies, for example!

Mats like this are a great idea, we had something similar when mine were younger which could be washed off. It really sounds like she enjoyed colouring it way more than you expected.
