How to Make Your Home Feel More Open and Airy

I am sure everyone is noticing the sunlight outside and the feeling of warmth that comes with summertime. Having a bright and airy home is something I always strive for, so I wanted to talk about the best ways to make your home feel more open, full of light, and airy! Having a home that is bright can really improve your day to day life as having more sunlight seems to make people generally much happier.

Open Plan

The first thing that you need to think about when having an airy house is the flow. Often houses that are more open, one room flowing into the next, can make the home feel much more airy and bright. Light will leak from room to room, making sure that you don’t have big walls blocking it from one place to the next. If you aren’t able to have an open plan house, adding mirrors across walls in smaller rooms will open up the space and make sure that light is moving about in a nice way.

Glass Railings

Whether it’s outside on a balcony or inside on a staircase, having glass railings allows light to flow nicely and keep the area looking great. I always figured that glass railings would gain finger prints easily or need to be cleaned too often, but that’s just not the case. Glass balustrades for interiors  are often made to be very thick and durable, as well as resistant to fingerprints or scuffs. It’s also perfect to get light bouncing around!

Selective Curtains

When it comes to windows, letting in natural light and having them open will make your home feel so light and airy! You’ll want to select curtains that you can easily open and shut, or use thin curtains that are always letting light in. If you don’t like bugs, there are lots of window screen inserts that can be placed inside your window to keep put moths, spiders and bugs that might otherwise get in, while still allowing you to air out the dust and add movement to the air currently in your home.
