JUMANJI: Wild Adventures brings the movie to life!

JUMANJI: The Video Game

*AD – the item in this review was gifted to our household for this post. All opinions, as always, are our own.

Robin is a big fan of reviewing video games, as you probably know if you have seen our other posts. She has not, however, seen Jumanji the movie, so when I asked her if she wanted to take on Jumanji: Wild Adventures, I wasn’t actually sure if she would be interested. We watched the trailer, and she actually got super pumped about the idea of exploring a jungle on an adventure!

Jumanji: The Video Game is a one to four player adventure where you can play as cast members from the movie – they are voice acted by the actors and look a lot like them. Robin loves playing as Ruby Roundhouse, who is the only girl character, which is why she loves her I think. In the game, you are able to pick the difficulty – we went for the easiest option, which allows you to continue to review from the last checkpoint each time you die. In Jumanji: The Video Game, you can drive your car around the map to select a level. In the level, you are given bits of narration to provide a story, and then are let loose in the level.

Each level is pretty straight forward when it comes to where to go next. There are enemies that are dotted around; large bugs, monkeys, etc that you can defeat, as well as treasure and coins! I honestly though Robin might struggle with this game, but she started roundhouse kicking her enemies and bursting forward. If you are playing in two player (or more) you will need to stick together as if one runs off, the other characters end up in a bubble above them, which is then popped to make sure everyone sticks together. We spent a lot of time playing video games together, and Jumanji: The Video Game felt really fun to play as an adult and as a child.

There are various crates within the game that give out a bonus weapon, which is super interesting. The first level we played, our bonus weapon was specific to our character. Robin had a spear that would stab enemies but could also be used to jump higher, which was particularly useful in that level as there were secrets off the path in higher places. My weapon was far less cool, allowing me to put out some bug spray, that affected the bug enemies and killed them faster. When we picked up weapon boxes in the next level, we thought these would be the same.

JUMANJI: The Video Game

To our surprise, I ended up with a boomerang, and Robin got throwing stars. These were the featured weapons throughout this level as many of the enemies were in the air or in trees, so this new weapon made it very easy to actually defeat them. Jumanji: The Video Game feels really well designed, with hidden areas, stars based on the challenges you are able to achieve, and more. Robin also really liked the fact that you can buy different pets from Nigel to take with you on your adventure! Though this wasn’t like other games Robin has played, she loved the adventure aspect and now we are going to be watching the movie later this week.

It’s great to hear that this game is just as entertaining for adults as it is for children. I think my son would really love to play this game too.
