Exploring Loch Ness on the Loch Ness Cruise

While staying in Fort Augustus at The Highland Club, Dann and I were right on the Loch Ness. If you somehow were unfamiliarly with Loch Ness specifically, it’s rumored to have a monster living in the lake, which has always been a really interesting myth. Hoping to learn more about Loch Ness and to see some beautiful views of the lake itself, we booked up the Loch Ness Cruise, which boarded right outside our accomidation.

The Loch Ness Cruise can be booked right outside the lake, but we booked online and arrived about half an hour early. Everyone lines up, so that the first people there get to pick their seats on the boat. There are seats on top, which is open air, and then on the bottom floor, which is within the boat. The bottom floor also has a bar on it, which sells snacks, drinks, and the ever-famous whisky. Dann and I grabbed seats upstairs at the side, so that we had a perfect view of the water and looked out to see if we possibly could spy Nessy, the lake monster. If you did get a not so desirable seat, you could walk around once we excited the thin lock area, allowing you to switch seats or just stand by the edge of the boat.

During the tour, we had a guide on the Loch Ness Cruise, who was absolutely full of character. Screens on the deck above us showcased some statistics and images to help go along with what they were saying. The tour guys talked about the history of loch ness, which could hold all of the other lakes in all of England and Scotland inside it’s depths. There were theories about what Nessy could possibly be, with pictures of giant eels and sturgents, along with a lot of information on the local area. There was even some history on the building we were staying in, which you could easily view from the cruise.

There is also a lot of empathises on the whisky that was sold on the Loch Ness Cruise. They had three different whisky flavors, and said that those that spot Nessy are often those who drink a lot of whisky. This was a funny, ongoing joke, but the whisky itself was pretty good too. Dann and I grabbed a shot at the bar, while on the trip. The trip itself is an hour long, which feels like a good amount of time, and you really can learn a lot. We really enjoyed taking pictures and hearing about Nessy.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!

My husband looked back at his family history, and the story goes that it was his family who trapped the Loch ness monster there. Whether this is true or not I have no idea.
We were planning a trip there this year as well
