When it comes to being creative, the girls love all things crafts. Painting, playing with clay, drawing, you name it, they like doing it. As it’s now summertime, we have been looking for ways for us to keep the children busy, without relying so much on screens. Sudocrem is running a campaign called My Little Masterpiece, which is all about children getting outside and doing something creative out there!

The idea of outside tends to me, in our home at least, coupled with playing on the trampoline or running around; something very active. It’s not all the time that the girls want to do active things in the yard, and they do spend quite some time crafting, so the idea of crafting outside is quite fun! If you are painting, which is something we did, the clean up is also much easier, especially if you are painting on the grass.

We went outside to see what sort of creative things we could do, using the My Little Masterpiece bundle, along with some of our own nature fun. One of the first things we we planned on doing is making flower crowns. The girls picked out a bendy twig, which we then cut off the tree. Next, they walked around the garden finding flowers and picking them, while I bent and tied the stick to make a circle. Together, we wrapped some ribbon around the stick, keeping the leaves out. When it was done, the girls picked where to place their flowers, then we fed them through the ribbon and secured them with further string.

This is a project that neither Amelia or Robin could really do without a lot of help, but the flower crowns they make are just so fun to wear and see! This also prompted them to explore the garden and see what was naturally growing. From there, they wanted to pick leaves and paint them, as they had seen so many differently shaped leaves.

This little craft was easy too; they picked leaves, painted them with sponge brushes, then used them like stamps – flattening them on the paper – before lifting them up to see what print was there. One of the best parts of doing crafts outside, while using nature, was seeing them describe the different types of leaves and find bugs, talking about everything they were seeing. This change of location really allowed more creativity in that way!

Currently, you can submit your child’s Little Masterpiece to Sudocrem’s website, for a chance to win a bunch of different prizes! It’s a great time to get crafting and see what the little ones come up with.

Check out some of the other crafts and projects we’ve done.

This is so true! I was so surprised at how much they started noticing about leaves and telling me about plants.

These are great ideas for outdoor crafts! I’m always trying to find something I can do outside with my Cub Scouts, we will have to try the stamping with leaves that they find on hikes.

That’s good to encourage kids to be outside as with technology kids don’t seem to get outside as much. The flower crowns sound like fun to make, but a shame they needed a lot of help x
