Our friend Quang had a birthday, so he invited Dann and I, along with loads of his other friends, to Nom Nom Restaurant. This is actually a place Dann and I, along with Quang and many other friends have been to many, many times, even when it previously was under another name. This is a traditional Vietnamese restaurant with a lot of authentic dishes. Vietnamese is my favorite type of food, so I am always excited to head over there.
Steam Rolls with Pork and Lime-Cured Beef
One of Quang’s favorite dishes are Steam Rolls. These are hand-made rice rolls, that have pork or mushrooms in the middle. They come with my absolute favorite sauce, along with a little salad. The texture is quite different from any of the other foods I have ever had, but the flavor is fantastic. Dann and I each had a plate, which we enjoyed very much. Dann also got some lime-cured beef, which is sort of like beef tartare. It wasn’t what he had expected, but he did like the citrus flavor throughout. The dip was interesting; sort of like a pea puree but not really pea tasting. More earthy in flavor.
Bun Cha Ha Noi and Marbled Shaking Beef
My favorite dish from Nom Nom Restaurant is Bun Cha Ha Noi, which is a noodle dish. This had charcoal grilled pork with the sauce I like very much, along with some salad. It use to come with spring rolls, but now these are a separate starter that you need to order to go with it. I combine everything together and eat it like one big dish! I absolutely love the flavor of the pork, the sauce, and the crispy spring rolls. The spring rolls at Nom Nom are unmatched! Dann ordered some Marbled Shaking Beef, which had loads of onions, peppers and tomatoes with it. He normally doesn’t eat onions, as he as an intolerance, so was surprised at the amount. The beef tips in the sauce was fantastic though, really tender and full of flavor.
For our drinks, we always go with the delicious homemade lemonade which has kumquats in it. We had a fantastic time at Nom Nom Restaurant – the staff are so kind and the food is just delicious. It’s a favorite spot for good reason! We all really did enjoy each other’s company as well.
