[Ad- gifted product] The Phlat Ball is a really interesting outdoor toy, that combines both the concept of a frisbee and a ball. You are able to squish the ball down flat, creating a thick frisbee, to throw around. In the air, it turns into a ball, which is easier to catch at the other end! We’ve played with the Phlat Ball both in our own back yard and at the beach, as it’s a really neat toy!
Inside the ball itself, there is a suction cup that can hold it together as a frisbee, allowing for longer throws. When we took our Phlat Ball to the beach, and obviously got sand into it, it became more challenging to make the Phlat Ball become flat, but it could still be thrown closed and it would just open up more quickly. After that, we do feel the ball itself is better for grassy areas and not sandy areas, but still makes a fun beach toy.
The Phlat Ball felt like a fun toy for older teens and tweens, which is something we are always looking for. Kai really enjoyed getting big throws in, especially with the weight of the Phlat Ball, which needed more force than a frisbee as frisbees can be carried on the wind as they weigh less. This also makes the Phlat Ball better to throw in smaller spaces, like your backyard, as it won’t be carried off with the wind. Dann and Kai spent a lot of time at the beach throwing the ball, diving for it when it hit the sand, and having an otherwise great time. Amelia and Robin joined in for a bit as well, though Robin struggled to get the ball into it’s flat form and get some momentum behind it.
I had never thought about combining together a ball and a frisbee but it does make for a really interesting and fun outdoor toy! Watching the ball pop back up into ball shape and seeing it fly through the air flat are both really interesting ways to play. The Phlat Ball also is nice and small when flat, so you can easily stick it into your back or store it away to take it out with you.
