Another addition to our Recipe a Week project, this time with My Drunk Kitchen, a Youtube cooking show that has branched out greatly and even produced a couple of cookbooks. We had the original My Drunk Kitchen cookbook, which isn’t actually a cookbook per say. The book is more of an inspirational, cooking adjacent book about the author, Hannah Hart, and what she has learned over the years. Her Youtube videos are pretty similar to this – sort of half recipes that always end in a meaningful way, giving you something to take away from it. With that in mind, we took inspiration from her recipe, which was more like a list of ingredients, and wrote our own out of it.

Notes
Hannah Hart’s recipe is more like a guide, talking about burning the pita, the dangers of microwaves, and that it’s probably fine anyway because it doesn’t really matter. The life lesson for this recipe was ‘Trust me. You look good.’ and the matching cocktail was vodka and gin as they have the least amount of calories. It’s a pretty funny recipe to follow and the pictures are very basic – not trying to look like some restaurant quality food. There are literally bagged carrots, broccoli and celery just shoved on the side of a pink plate. The opening talks a lot about being an adult with first world problems and googling illnesses.
This is a really feel-good type of book, giving you bite-sized bits of life and lessons to take from them before you get to the recipe. Most of the recipes are easy – anyone can follow them – and none of them go too in-depth in process or require much skill. It’s a good book for those who enjoy Hannah Hart and her style, as it really shines through the book itself.
These look amazing! I miss eating these! I call them sloppy joes though!
Our family always called the beef ones sloppy joes – and I guess Hannah Hart re-named the turkey ones to be Janes. π
These look yummy! And very clever to put it in a pita rather than a burger bun!
It’s a great twist!
I’ve not heard of Hannah Hart but I love the sound of her takes on things! These Sloppy Janes look delicious – how cool that they use up whatever you have too, perfect for right now! π
