Rocky Horror Show Board Game – For Real Fans

When it comes to board games, Dann and I have a by-weekly tabletop night for our site BigBossBattle. On the weeks we do not have our tabletop group, we also play a bunch of board games with our children. Some games, however, are better suited for an older demographic, so when it came to Rocky Horror Show Board Game, we decided to play it as apart of our friend group, since the rating was 14 and above.

Rocky Horror Show Board Game is aimed at fans of the movie of the same name. I say this as a few of our group have watched the movie a few times, but there were a lot of quotes and moments that really feel like they are aimed at some of the cult followers of the movie itself. We called one of our friends, who is obsessed with the movie, and they could easily finish the quotes and earn lips! You see, the goal of the game is to get your character through the castle and out to the right part of the world (depending on their character). You will also need 5 lips, which are tokens earned throughout the game.

The game itself is split into three stages, which are represented by different parts of the board. The first board has everyone trying to make their way to the castle, by rolling a die with a one, two or three on it, and then moving that number of spaces. You will also get a card to pull, which will often have a quote to read out loud, then an action. Some of these actions are for later in the game, allowing you to hold onto the card, while others have ways to get Lips or the end of quotes that people can shout back so that they earn lips.

The character that each person picks in Rocky Horror Show Board Game also is important! Each character can get an additional pair of lips if their action happens naturally – one character’s action involves drawing on the box or board and being noticed. Another involves a specific phrase being said. Each character also has an other character, with the same color base, that is important when it comes to movement later in the game. Once everyone gets around the board and through the castle, it’s then time for the next stage.

The next stage involves playing cards to get different body parts of Rocky up to ten. If you are the last to lay down a card for a body part, hitting 10, then you get additional lips. After Rocky is completely made, you then can move onto the next stage. It’s worth noting each of these are quite quick to get through! The final stage was the longest for us, as we needed to move across lines onto different shapes. Some shapes allowed you to switch places with your partner, others had you drawing cards. It really depended on what you landed on. Different characters want to exit on the left or right of the final stage, but can only do so when they have enough lips.

Rocky Horror Show Board Game is very easy to understand and play, and set up isn’t very long either. It’s a board game that would do well after a movie night or with true fans of Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is pretty fun to have.

I’ve actually only ever seen the rocky horror picture show once but loved it. I think I’d need to watch it again before playing this game so the quotes had the most impact. Looks like loads of fun for fans x

Sounds like a fun game for Rocky Horror superfans. Like the detail about characters getting lips for doing things their character would do – very thematic.
