Eating at the Rollercoaster Restaurant

Rollercoaster Restaurant

While staying at Alton Towers, we wanted to check out the Rollercoaster Restaurant – a place where you can eat, but your food is delivered on a rollercoaster. This is a pretty unique gimmick, listing it as being the only place that does this, so we didn’t want to miss out on the chance to eat there. It is worth noting that you do need to book well in advance, and a lot of people are actually there celebrating their Birthday, which involves the entire restaurant having Happy Birthday play over the speakers during the meal. This happened like 7 times while we were there, which was wild.

The Rollercoaster Restaurant has some pretty unique dinning tables, with three tables being circled around a middle rollercoaster bit. These tables are sort of close together, so for those with big families might be a little squished! You then can order your food via an app, which will then deliver it to your table using the rollercoaster system. There are still staff members walking around to help you, and a communal place in the middle has the plates, knives and napkins you might need.

We ordered a lot of food! These dishes came in little pots, that flew down the rollercoaster, appearing in front of us. We ordered BBQ nachos, which had pork on them. The portion was that of an appetizer so we ended up getting two, along with some veggies and hummus and some chicken wings, all as starters. Our children really love red bell pepper hummus, so enjoyed the dip and veggies. The wings were a good amount of heat for kids, though for Dann and I they could have been more spicy, and the nachos were delicious.

Our mains came in more than one pot, with the main thing being in the first one, and sides being in a second one.,Dann got some chicken stripes with buffalo sauces, cheese, and fries, which tasted the best. I honestly wish I ended up getting that! The rest of us went with burgers; chicken burgers and beef burgers, with a variety of sides. I got mozerella sticks as one of my siders, which were decent. There was a super spicy pepper on the top of my burger which was fun. Kai and Amelia both enjoyed their burger too, and Robin got chicken bites, which she liked.

Overall, the menu did feel like generic, kid-friendly food with not a lot of variety, but the whole point of the place is the fact that everything comes on a rollercoaster. It’s not really a place about the food, so if you are looking for something super fancy, this just won’t be the place you get it at. I am sure there is some logic as well into what food they can serve, especially as food goes around a loop-ta-loop, literally going upside down before getting to your table.

We did enjoy our time at the Rollercoaster Restaurant. It’s one of those places that you have to attend once in your life but likely wouldn’t go back to, if that makes sense. The gimmick worked and was interesting, it’s great to see it moving around and doing it’s thing! The food is non-offensive and okay. The seating is a bit awkward, and to be completely honest, there is no way to actually talk to anyone in that restaurant because of the noise level – which was intensely loud, with tons of signing every 15 minutes. But, I do get why people would want to go for their birthday!
