Ryan’s Rescue Squad allows kids to become a superhero

[Ad- gifted product] We are always looking for fun, kid-friendly video games that are age appropriate (read not too difficult) for Robin to play on her own! As she is only five years old, the games that her older siblings play are often too hard for her, and when she is on her own she struggles. So, whenever we can find a new game that works for her, we love getting our hands on it! Ryan’s Rescue Squad is designed for younger kids, bringing them into Ryan’s World, where he is a super hero – collecting eggs, coins and suns, beating up baddies, and solving puzzles.

Ryan’s Rescue Squad is a 2.5D platformer, where you can choose a character, and then start exploring. There is clear ways forward in the game, but also hidden areas that contain bonus sun, coins and eggs. The whole world is full of color,, looking to be made of baskets weaved together, buttons holding things in, and brightly designed slides sticking out. There are lots of monsters, in the forms of bugs, and spikes in the forms of sharp colored pencils, to give you something to watch out for. One of the main unique features of Ryan’s Rescue Squad is the blocks of slime that can be found all over the world. There are a few different colored slimes, which do different things.

Once you have hit a box enough to get a bunch of slimes, they will chain behind you. Your character can then throw these slimes as a way of getting suns, coins or eggs and defeating monsters. Some types of slimes bounce around, so you can use them to ping of walls – much like Peggle (a game that Robin really enjoys). As the levels themselves are quite straight forward, there is a timer and a sun collector on the top, along with a trophy counter that seems to hold your total score. There are a few boss fights and some pizza related power ups, creating a really well rounded game. At the end of levels, a new outfit is unlocked, which is fun for character customization, which seems to be very important to kids.

Some of the levels have timed areas, showcased by blue suns, which provide for a real challenge for little ones, but not a challenge that they cannot beat with a few go’s. This game does feel really well designed with children in mind, between the bright and colorful graphic style and the challenge in the game itself. Ryan’s Rescue Squad does allow for two player, which is really ideal when it comes to playing with Robin, as she loves playing with a second player! She told me to include “It’s a pretty fun game because there is lots of stuff and bubbles.” Which clearly means it’s a 5 star review from her.

I love how shows these days are more mindful and educational to children. They are entertaining but also teach valuable lessons

She looks so happy playing the game, I bet it’s kept her quiet for hours. And she can feel like her siblings playing a game x
