On our quest to pet Highland Cows while staying at The Highland Club in Fort Augustus, we heard about Cameron’s Tearoom and Farm Shop. There wasn’t much to go off of for the venue, but with the idea of seeing cows in mind, we headed there. Cameron’s Tearoom & Farm Shop is on the smaller, cozy side when it comes to seating. There is a fireplace roaring in the middle, it feels like sitting in someone’s living room, and there are a bunch of different sports jerseys hanging on the wall. When we arrived, it was during the switch between the breakfast menu and lunch menu, where the tearoom doesn’t serve food for half an hour. I didn’t realize this was a thing, but they let us come in and check out the menu while we waited.

The staff themselves felt very chaotic. You did need to order everything you want to eat at once, at the counter, like at a pub. The person behind the counter felt very rushed, telling me to wait when I was at the counter waiting, then rushing me through ordering the desserts, then gathering some of the drinks for me to walk back to the table and come back – I am not sure, it just had weird vibes to the whole thing.
Nachos, Soup and Cake

I am not sure if tearooms are my thing, but I often find that things called “tearoom and farm shop” have pretty simple menus. There weren’t many options at all at Cameron’s Tearoom and Farm Shop, with the breakfast menu looking far better than the lunch options. We did end up getting a few small things; Dann picked out the soup of the day. We aren’t sure what the soup was, as nobody told us, but Dann said it tasted like tomato and roasted bell pepper. I got some nachos which were just tortilla chips with melted cheese on top, salsa, sour cream and jalapenos on the side. These tasted just like they sound! The cake, which was raspberry and coconut, was the real stand out. It was moist, delicious, and had a lot of flavor. I regretted not getting another to take with me when I left.
The Animals at Cameron’s Tearoom and Farm Shop

As mentioned, we really came to Cameron’s Tearoom and Farm Shop for the animals. We specifically were looking for Highland Cows and were delighted to find them along with some deer that you could just pet! I am a huge fan of deer as I grew up in a town where they wondered around everywhere, so was delighted to see the deer. You could easily go up and pet these animals! The Highland Cows had a lot of bits of hair that seemed very knotted and some of them did have some scabs, but I am not sure if that’s normal for this time of year. I found these cows to be a bit less friendly then the other cows we saw on our holiday, but maybe that’s because we didn’t have any food to feed them! It’s worth noting they also had horses and ponies, but I was there for the cows and deer.
I mean, yummy food and adorable creatures? I can’t think of anything to top that for a fun day out with the fam.
