Amelia picked out this slime toy from our local Smyths, loving both slime and food-themed play. This kit looked very promising, as we have previously had some DIY themed items that have been quite fun to do. After picking up the Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory set, it did sit under her bed for a few weeks, before she picked it out one morning, looking to make some Ice Cream.
The stand itself in Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory is really easy to make. It’s mainly two pieces that can be clicked together, before stickers are added to make the stand come to life. Once the stand was made, Amelia started in on the slime. There were some instructions that came with it – to create a sort of topping and to put slime in specific places. The slime for this syrup topping is made by putting either pink or brown powder into the bottle and adding some water, then letting it hit for a around five minutes. This made a sort of jelly squeezy, that smells really powerful of strawberry or chocolate depending on which one you pick. It was actually a little difficult to find if this was the right packet, as the instructions weren’t very clear, and this was something that continued with the set.
There were four large packets of slime also included in the kit, in tin-foil looking packages. Two of these slimes, white and yellow, were super sticky – butter slime like textures, that you cannot really play with, as it gets literally everywhere and sticks to your fingers. Amelia was quite disappointed by this, as it was so terribly sticky, and asked me to add more activator to it. I didn’t end up adding more, as we wanted to see the whole kit through, and as the slime itself felt over activated as she played with it. In the other packets there were pink and blue “slime” that would crumble away as you touched it, not making for good slime play at all.
The Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory wanted us to put the blue and pink slime in a container, and scoop them into a little ice cream cone or bowl, so that we can play with them, however neither Amelia or myself could actually scoop them. The sticky slime, we think, was meant to go through the whipped cream area of the stand, becoming whipped cream or soft serve, on top of the slime that was falling apart, and if you mixed the sticky slime with the crumbly slime, it does sort of make a slime together, that can be played with! This seemed like the goal of the slime, but just wasn’t something that could be done while playing with the factory.
There were also four types of sprinkles that could be put in the ice cream; stars, circles, strawberries and mixed fruit, as well as a bunch of charms that are themed around big ice cream toppings, that have a soft, fun texture to them. Neither the sprinkles or charm could stick into the slime, as it’s a dry, sort of clay slime that is created, so that’s a bit of a shame, really. The box itself said there were four different textures, and showcased someone pulling an ice, stretchy looking slime, which just wasn’t apart of the box.
It’s really a shame that the Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory didn’t live up to it’s packaging or up to the slime it claimed it had. Amelia was able to make clay slimes, adding in the strawberry topping as well, and having fun mixing them in much bigger bowls than the set, recovering her slime, however if you have a slime newcomer or a younger child, you might have a melt down on your hands.
I love love love the idea…I wish there was something like this toy but a better version for our kids.
Yeah, I do wish it was better quality.
My boy slove slime, they would get a kick out of this one for sure! I remember having an ice cream machine as a kid but it didn’t make slime!
It is such a cute idea!
Oh, man. It’s always a bummer when products don’t live up to their claims. I’m just glad your daughter was able to have fun with it in any case.
It was pretty fun in the end.
This sounds like so much fun. My kids all love to play with slime and this just adds to the fun. This sounds like the perfect birthday gift for my daughter’s birthday as she’d love one of these.
I hope she has better luck than us!
What a fun activity for the kids…there’s something about little ones and messy projects that always entertain them. Looks like they enjoyed it!
Being messy is sometimes really fun!
Ah thanks for the warning. It’s a nice concept though, isn’t it!
It is a very nice idea!
That’s such a shame about this as it sounds like it should be quite fun. And having some too sticky must have created a bit of a mess x
It was very messy!
My kids would totally love this! This sounds like a great kit to have, especially when the kids have their friends over.
If you don’t mind the mess, it’s fun!
Even with the mess, this must be a really fun toy!
Amelia really enjoyed it.
Both my children love Slime even now and this Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory is such a fabulous gift to keep little ones busy for hours. So glad yours love it
It is a really good gift for slime lovers!
