Sushi Dog Roll at Home Kit | Review

One of the best things that has come out of Lockdown are these make-at-home meal kits. They are so created, so fun, and bring a lot of quality produce to your door with easy-to-assemble instructions. When I heard about Sushi Dog’s Roll at Home kit, I had to try one. The idea behind these sushi rolls is a massive, burrito-like sushi with quality ingredients, sent right to your door. They are great for a fun night in, a date night, or a special meal for your family! We decided to go with the Salmon To Love and Spicy Tuna Kit.

The Salmon To Love and Spicy Tuna Kit creates 4 full sushi dogs as well as one “tester” roll so that you can get the hang of rolling – but to be honest, we had enough ingredients for all 5 rolls with a lot of the veggies and rice left over – and we stuffed our rolls. The box came delivered with minimum packaging, which is great as one of the issues with these boxes is all of the extra bubble wrap, packaging and more that gets tossed in. Containers you can’t help too much, but with limited packaging it does feel better. The box was full of items – fresh veggies, sauces, fresh fish, a rolling mat. It’s quite nice that they do include a rolling mat as that can be something that stops people from actually making sushi at home, so now they’d have the tools.

Along with the actual ingredients, the kit comes with cards that help you with each step of the process, rolling paper to put your sushi dog into and stickers to seal them up! We were able to easily cook our rice – which uses quite a different technique of putting boiling water into the pot to begin with – using the cards. When it came to rolling, we had greatly overfilled thinking there would be only enough ingredients for four and a bit extra, but the links to videos on the cards did really help! This box is so well thought out and the ingredients are really high quality. My only negative was the order the ingredients went on was a bit odd – I’d prefer to season my rice with the sesame seeds and not put on crunchy onions to then top it was soy.

The heat and kick in the Spicy Tuna roll was great – just spot on. I really loved the marinate as well, which made the whole thing very flavorful. The salmon kit was refreshing and a really great combination as well, but both Dann and I are suckers for a bit of spice. You can, of course, personalise these rolls as you are creating them yourself – adding a bit more chilli or omitting ingredients if you’d like. Dann felt the sauces made the sushi dogs, as having the Japanese mayo, soy, and sirracha mayo were great additions that we don’t often have in sushi at home.

The entire meal was very filling for us two, with about a sushi dog and a half left over, so there is plenty in the kit for the amount of money you are spending. We also had leftover chilli, cucumber and seasonings that we are going to use up in the coming days! It’s so fun to do kits like these and Sushi Dog is doing sushi in a whole new, fun way where it doesn’t even matter much if you are messy.

At home meal kits have been amazing, I’ve enjoyed quite a few of them over the past year. Although there is only limited sushi I enjoy so I’d have to be picky with an at home sushi. Yours has come out so well! x

My cousin would love this! I’m definitely sharing with her as she loves sushi and wouldn’t mind making it at home.
