Another month, another bundle of books! Robin is still really enjoying her Koala Box from The Bear Can Read, finding it super fun to read through these books and work on the various worksheets that are included in the box. As per usual, this box actually follows the curriculum she is learning in school, working well as an aid in her learning, so that we can continue to improve her reading and handwriting! She also very much enjoys getting mail, opening her box, and especially diving right into her books.
As always, this box had three books – though one was a blending book which contained the sounds that we were working on this month, something we’ve found super useful! As well as six work sheets on the words and sounds, three bonus worksheets that are more aimed at fun, a pack of bee stickers, a book mark, three flash cards with sounds, two flash cards with site words, a flash card about using the sounds, and some extras – a little teddy and a pack of colored pencils.
Robin is always really interested in the books, but particularly enjoyed Space Dad, reading it out lout almost completely on her own. As I have mentioned, I really like the blending book as it’s so good at re-enforcing what we are learning. We added the flash cards to our deck, going over the site words and tracing the phrases once a week – Robin’s site words have really improved greatly in the last few months, which I feel could be due to these cards. The worksheets were the standard affair – learning blends like AIR, ER and URE. These sounds are all similar so it was good doing them around the same time. There was a word search, which was new to her, and she did struggle with the concept of words being spent vertically, but it was good to introduce her to word searches as Amelia has been doing them at school a lot lately. The bonus sheets included a maze – something Robin had never done before, and a sheet that had you drawing on hair for children, which Robin thought was pretty funny.
Robin was a bit sad that the bee stickers were the same as last month, as was the little teddy (though this one was white instead of brown). This little teddy stayed up on a shelf, so it didn’t break apart from being played with, and Robin started putting stickers on her chart each day that she completes her homework – something she is quite enjoying. We still feel this box is really useful and has been helping Robin’s learning greatly.
What a great box for kids! My youngest would love something like this.
It’s so lovely for learning.
This sounds like a nice way to get kids excited about learning and that’s so good that she read almost all of space dad on her own x

Yes it is!
What a wonderful idea to inspire a love of reading from a young age. So important to get them off to a good start with literacy and this looks like the perfect way of doing so.
Yes! Another thing that helps is reading before bedtime. It’s so good she enjoys reading.
