While staying with Abbey Holidays at The Highland Club in Loch Ness, they recommended we eat at The Boathouse Restaurant, which is within view of the apartments that they rent. This little ma-and-pa style restaurant is one that has beautiful, stunning views of Loch Ness. The views themselves are enough to bring anyone to the area, but the food is also something we wanted to try and see if it lived up to the breathtaking views. The menu itself has a mix of Scottish food and Turkish food, as the owner is Turkish. I went for the Turkish options myself!
Sucuk and Fried Haggis
Both Dann and I were pretty hungry, so we went for some starters at The Boathouse Restaurant. Dann got Fried Haggis and I got the Sucuk. Sucuk is a turkish sausage that I really enjoy, and this one was perfectly cooked. It came with a very well seasoned salad, that I enjoyed as well. Dann got fried haggis, that he very much liked, though it wasn’t for me. It was very clearly freshly fried, with the batter being fresh and not too oily. The salad was the same as mine, and it came with a garlic mayo dip.
Mixed Grill and Hunter’s Chicken
Following Dann and I having a completely different themed dinner, I got the Mixed Grill. This had lamb, sucuk, and chicken, along with rice and salad. It’s a pretty big portion and also came with the garlic mayo dip and a spicy tomato dip. The meat itself was all seasoned well and this was some of the best lamb I have ever had. It was absolutely perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. The rice itself could have had butter, but that’s likely the American in me. Dann’s chicken was stuffed with haggis, covered in gravy and came with potatoes and vegetables. The vegetables had some seasoning on them – we couldn’t quite figure out what – that gave them a really unique and delicious flavor. The chicken was well cooked and the gravy was good too, it was a very filling meal.
Dann and I really liked the look of The Boathouse Restaurant. It’s so close to where we are staying, we had to check it out. The inside of the building is sort of one big room, but there are windows everywhere showing off Loch Ness, which is just fantastic to see as you are eating. The staff were also very kind and attentive, which is always a good sign.
Wow, that view! I love visiting restaurants that have a view! I’ve not had much Turkish food, but yours looked really good and I think I’d opt for that over the haggis (which I also like!)
The menu at The Boathouse Restaurant is to be honest, super tempting. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences.
I love Turkish food, it’s always so flavoursome. What a fab location for a meal out.
