A Weekend Away at The Lakes Hotel and Spa

The Lakes Hotel and Spa

It was our 5 year anniversary, so we went to The Lakes Hotel and Spa for three days to celebrate. We actually went to this hotel last year, for our 4 year anniversary, and really fell in love with not only the area of England that we were in but also the quality of this hotel. The Lakes Hotel is fancy, and when I say fancy I do mean really fancy. On arrival, when getting to the gate, they know your name and ask about your travels. When you get in to the building, you are given a welcome glass of prosecco and a tour of the place, before your concierge takes all of your bags upstairs and shows you your room.

The Lakes Hotel and Spa has it’s own cocktail lounge, restaurant and a sitting area that you can use during your stay. In the room themselves, each one has a balcony with a hot tub, that feels very private and has fantastic views. You can order drinks right to your hot tub, along with text the concierge if you need anything, which is always quite fun! The bed is probably the biggest, most comfortable bed I have never slept in, and the pillows and blankets are always very soft and of high quality. The tv itself is massive, it’s just a room that feels full of luxury. There is also a car that they will drive you around in, if you want, at this hotel.

The actual spa at The Lakes Hotel is in a separate building, which contains a traditional British pub. You do get a complementary robe and slippers, so you can wear those through the pub and go directly into the spa. They do refresh your towels whenever you go in. It does feel a little strange going through a pub to get to the spa, but the spa itself is really fantastic and the people in the pub always really know about it as they are staying there too. The spa has a massive pool that you can turn on huge bubbles in, two jacuzzis, a plunge pool, this sort of bubble lounger on the side of the pool as well as a dry and wet sauna. You can also sit at one of the many tables or loungers, or stay in one of the comfortable egg-shaped bed things meant for two people. The pub bar has a window that opens up to the spa, allowing you to order drinks or get a water if you’d like.

The spa is one of the main reasons why we love The Lakes Hotel and Spa. It’s open late, never to full and always very clean. I really like the blue lights and the various decorations, it feels really calming. You can also book extra treatments if you’d like, but we never do as we do so much relaxing. The Lakes Hotel and Spa is a stones throw away from Bowness-on-Windermere, with it’s own little five minute walk to get to the front of the town. You can actually see a beautiful view of the lake from the cocktail lounge, where we always get a few signature cocktails. They do a lot of cocktails that have a bunch of special features – last year Dann had one that came in a smoke dome. It’s just a fantastic place to stay. We also ate at their in-hotel restaurant, Mizumi, but we are going to do a full food review on a seperate blog post. They also have a breakfast buffet which has pastries from a local bakery, an entire porridge station, everything for a full English breakfast, plenty of breads, fruits, and yoghurts, and so much more. It’s probably the best hotel breakfast I have ever had.

We really love staying at The Lakes Hotel and Spa and will likely be back next year too. It’s just a fantastic place and there is so much to do on Bowness-on-Windermere. We often take a boat out on the lake, go on a few walks, and just enjoy the general sunshine and views!

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
