Painting Pottery at The Little Arts Workshop

Most years, for Amelia’s birthday, she asks to go to a pottery place. She quite enjoys painting pottery that gets glazed and fired in a kelm, calling them “proper pottery”. So, when her birthday came around this year, we weren’t surprised that she wanted to go to a new pottery place! Recommended by a friend, we headed over to The Little Arts Workshop, which wasn’t very far from us at all.

The Little Arts Workshop is a cozy paint your own pottery shop and cafe. You can book a timeslot online to either paint pottery that’s pre-made, or grab balls of clay to create your own object, which they then fire and allow you to paint at a different date. Along with these two ways to create, they also run a number of events including pizza and painting and some crafting workshops for adults. There are really a lot of options when it comes to visiting, which I was surprised about! When we arrived, everyone was very relaxed. On the left hand side of the building there was a lot of different pottery that you can choose. They had a lot of the basics; bowls, plates, trinket boxes, animals – which was great to see. Amelia’s Birthday is near Halloween, so there were plenty of pumpkins and Haunted Houses as well. The collection was very big and we all found something we liked.

On each table at The Little Arts Workshop, there were plenty of paints already out and a guide to show us how many coats we needed to get the desired look, along with brushes to get you started. There is also another area that has a bunch of other colors, along with a few speckled options, and more detailed brushes and tools. Amelia picked out a plate to start with, Dann picked out a small figured, and I went with a bowl. We are working on having a bunch of plates and bowls for our house so we can always eat of off that we have designed.

Amelia started off painting a sort of lavender themed plate, with me painting a matching bowl for my set and Dann working on his desk ornament. It was quite easy and fun to paint! The Little Arts Workshop has another, small area that has special speckled glazes that you can paint on the outside of things, as it’s not food safe. You can purchase these glaze pots to then use if you want, which I did for the outside of my bowl. The staff at The Little Arts Workshop were very friendly and explained everything to us, We chatted with them quite a bit as we were there for some time. Amelia ended up getting a red velvet cupcake, and we all got drinks. Dann got a fancy coffee and Amelia and I had boba tea. It was a fun time!

You end up paying for everything at the end, and then they take a few weeks to fire the items, which you can pick up later. Amelia picked a second piece to paint, which was a Jack-o-Lantern-Lanter, which will look great with a candle in it outside. We all really enjoyed The Little Arts Workshop and will be checking out their events in the future.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
