Whenever Amelia has a day off of school without her siblings, she asks to go pottery painting! We’ve been very slowly replacing all of the plates, bowls and cups in our home with ones that we have decorated ourselves. Often, we will get these sorts of items instead of grabbing the more decorated bits, though Amelia does have three little cats, a mushroom decoration and so much more from pottery painting. Recently, when she was off school, we went to The Potty Painting Studio, which was surprisingly nearby.

Amelia wanted to bring her friend with her, so we picked her up and then headed straight there, arriving at The Potty Painting Studio right for opening. The venue itself is a little hidden, in a converted old warehouse type building, but there was plenty of parking when we arrived. We then went straight in! They had a wall of all of the different pottery items to pick from, with one or two of each of the designs. This wasn’t the biggest selection, but there was a lot of variety from smaller items to larger items. I picked out a large pasta bowl that has high sides, Amelia picked a dessert plate, and her friend picked a highland cow statue. There were also small tools on the side like lettering tools, stamps and sponges.

We then went to our table which had all of the different pants on a lazy Suzan, making everything very easy to reach. There was a guide to show how the paint would look when fired, which is always a must. The owner of the Potty Painting Studio came over with water bowls and paint pallets, so we had everything we needed! She did also explain how everything worked and about the pricing – it’s a £5 fee to paint, then the cost of your pottery and any drinks or snacks you have, all paid at the end. We got right to work painting. Amelia is making all of her plates, bowls, and glasses flower themed, so she made a small rose-themed plate. I made mine in the sort of 80s, funky design I have been doing recently, which always comes together in a fun way. Amelia’s friend painted her highland cow in a cute style.

About midway through our painting, we all ordered some milk teas with popping boba. They were sweet and delicious, as expected. Dann also got a coffee, though he was primarily just hanging out and not into painting this time. They also had sandwiches and snacks like Pringles that could be purchased. As this is a sort of little cafe, there were also small children’s toys to keep younger ones busy, dotted around. It’s got a good family owned, for families to attend vibe to it. When we were all done painting, we were able to leave everything at the table and pay. The pottery takes about a week to collect, so a standard wait, before we could see them finished.
We enjoyed The Potty Painting Studio – it does feel very family owned and family ran, which is always lovely to support. It was a little cold in the unit, so I would suggest bringing a jumper, due to the type of building that it is. Otherwise, it’s a lovely little afternoon out!
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
I’ve done pot painting last summer and it was so much fun. I loved the creative process and the experimentation. I can’t wait to do it again.
I love artsy classes like this. They’re a great way to spend time together as a family.
That sounds like a super fun outing. I love being able to get creative like that as a family.
This looks like a fun place for small groups of both kids and adults! I would love to try painting pots!
This is such a lovely activity to go and do together. Great to be creative and to also take home and use what you have made.
