When we are on holiday, we always find ourselves at a zoo or an aquarium! This time, we visited Tiergarten Schonbrunn, which was right by the cafe where we had breakfast the same day. This zoo has over 500 different animals on show, each with their own large enclosures, which is always great to see! This zoo is an entire day out type of zoo, if you really want to explore everything, as it is truly massive. We did not have an entire day, so didn’t end up seeing everything, but am very excited to go back and see more at some point.

Tiergarten Schonbrunn has feeding times listed for loads of their different animals, which often have someone talking in German about the animal. We ended up seeing the feeding time for the giant tiger, that played a lot with their food after dragging it out of the feeding area. They almost wanted to put on a show, if I am honest! If you are looking to see the whole zoo, there are these paw prints that follow a path, seeing literally everything. We followed this for quite some time, passing by a very impressive mountain goat area, with them running about and jumping on various rocks, before seeing a rhino play around in their area. There were tons of animals, quite a few animals that I didn’t even know off the top of my head.

In one area, we got to go in and grab some brushes to brush some goats. You can also spend some money to get feed for them, but there was one particularly hungry and big goat at Tiergarten Schonbrunn, who was ramming into anyone who went near the machine, to secretly take their food, so we exited out of there without feeding them. There were also pelicans that were squawking and moving around, a bull that was playing with their bucket, tons of beautiful flamingos. The amount of animals at this zoo is really unmatched.

We went to an indoor bit where we saw lots of monkeys all swinging about, though they were behind glass, so it wasn’t open area. We did not realize that a lot of the buildings actually close about an hour before the park closes, so we did miss the polar bear building and the one that had birds in it – which we will really prioritise next time! We did stop by the penguin area, which at the end of the day stinks of fish – just a warning as their feeding seems to be last for a reason.

We did see some sea lions, lemurs, hippos, and some very impressive birds as we walked around Tiergarten Schonbrunn. This felt very much like an adult zoo – not one with rides or gimmicks, but instead one focused on the animals. We stopped to try some food inside the main cafe, where Dann and I both got delicious garlic soups, before leaving for the day. It was a lovely time and we’d very much need an entire day to see it all.
