Our Quest to Getting a Better Night’s Sleep

[Ad- gifted products] Since COVID, many of us have been struggling to get a good nights sleep. Maybe it’s the fact that we’ve just all aged or maybe it’s long COVID. We do not really know the cause, but Dann has really been struggling with sleeping well at night and I have found myself sleeping more than I previously have! In our quest to getting a better night’s sleep, we have upgraded a lot of our bedroom. Often things like new mattresses and replacing pillows can go without happening for a long, long time. We might not notice wear on things that we use daily, which prevents us from noticing it needs replacing really.

Simba Mattress

When Dann and I first got a mattress after we moved in, we just picked up one at Ikea along with our bed frame. This mattress is very simple, and doesn’t have any springs, which was all I really knew about mattresses. As we were looking to have a better night’s sleep, a friend recommended Simba. Simba has a bunch of different mattresses, with different layers in them that are meant to help with deep sleep. You can really pick a mattress that is the firmness or coolness you are looking for. A mattress is a larger purchase, but is one that lasts quite some time so is worth it in the long run. We went with the Simba Hybrid there are layers that are breathable, cooling the mattress. There aren’t metal springs and instead are micro springs, giving a lot of comfort. The mattress is also sustainably produced too!

Mattress Topper

Along with the new mattress, which is really comfortable, we got a mattress topper after going to a hotel and having one of those cushioning toppers on our mattress. Dann really loves the feeling of a hotel and has deduced that the mattress topper is what makes it fantastic. There are tons of different toppers from foam toppers if you like a more firm feel or more pillow-y toppers if you like something soft. They do take a little bit of effort to get them in exactly the right place on your bed, but once you have your sheets in place it doesn’t move around.

New Pillows

Much like mattresses, Simba has a bunch of options for new pillows that allow you to pick ones that are ideal for how you want to sleep. Some pillows are focused on being more cooling, while others, actually allow you to remove inserts to create the hardness and warmth that you want. There are a few different options, and though I have always had duck feather pillows previously, I have been quite enjoying the firmness of the Hybrid, that doesn’t seem to get too warm and does keep it’s shape. This new upgrade has been fantastic for our sleep!

Weighted Blanket

Now, this is more Dann then me, but a weighted blanket has made it’s way into our nighttime. These blankets, often for one person, are super heavy. They make you feel as if you are wrapped in a cocoon. As Dann is a big fidget at night, waking himself up through moving, we got a weighted blanket that can kind of keep him in place and keep him warm. I do not enjoy the feeling of being trapped underneath a heavy object, but Dann does, and it has helped him with his sleep too!

Love this and I will have to check out the Simba mattress as it sounds pretty cool. I am with you on the weighted blanket….. I do not like the heavy feeling either but I can see how others love it.
