[Ad- gifted product] World Book Day is right around the corner, so it’s a great time to get your child into reading and find new books for them to read! Robin always gleefully announces her favourite hobby is reading, so getting her new books is something we are constantly doing. As she is six turning seven this year, she is in a weird place where she wants to read chapter books, but if they don’t have any sort of drawings, she gets bored with them quickly! The series of Tom Gates books are perfect for her, as they have little drawings on each page, funny fonts, and are just very engaging!
We spent some time reading Tom Gates: Happy to Help (eventually) which is a chapter book about a young boy who likes to draw, make lists, and have fun. He’s not a fan of house work or hanging out with his big sister, so it feels very relatable to younger children. The beginning of the book is all about Tom Gates being happy to help out, as long as he does get some pocket money for a new art set he saw! He actually isn’t very good at helping out, and seems to actually not finish a lot of jobs or help in a way that’s not helpful, but nobody in the book minds much and they just correct him and make due with how he did help. The sense of humor that everyone seems to have in Tom Gates: Happy to Help (eventually) is so fun to read through and isn’t based on potty humor, which is great to see for this age range.
Tom Gates is a really fun kid, always up to mischief and adventures and always hanging out with his friends. He has a band, makes a lot of apology cards, and his classmates have very different attitudes and ways that they act. It makes for a really engaging and fun book for children to read, and is captivating for kids as young as Robin to the age of twelve! There are twenty other books within this seri4es, all around Tom Gates and his many adventures, so if your child falls in love with this book, there are plenty more like it!
Tom Gates has recently also made it’s way onto TV, becoming a popular TV show, and there are a few new clothing pieces as well! We got our hands on the Tom Gates Black Character Pyjamas, covered in doodles that match the drawings that Tom Gates drew in the book on the long-sleeve shirt and a pair of trousers to match! There is also an adorable hoodie, a t-shirt with far more drawings all over, and socks as well.
A perfect gift for my best friend’s daughter, thank you so much. She is an avid reader actually.
This looks like a fun graphic novel. My kids loved these kinds of books when they were younger and this sounds like something they would have enjoyed.
These kinds of books are popular with kids. I also love their pajama set. It was a great gift to my kids.
I am so loving this Happy to Help line! It is so colorful and the designs are si unique and cool.
It is great that she loves reading so much. These look like the perfect transition into chapter books for younger kids.
This looks like a good middle ground to a proper book but also keeping kids interested. I used to love world book day when I was a kid, but I always forget about it now x
I’m not familiar with Tom Gates, but I don’t have wee ones. Looks like a book children would love.
I like the way the pages look with the illustrated pictures alongside the words. It’s nice when kids want to read.
I will love to gift these books to my nephew. He will surely love reading it.
