Garden design inspiration for a more tranquil outdoor space

The weather has been fantastic lately, everyone is still stuck at home still, so if you haven’t already – it’s finally time to make your outdoor space a bit better for you and your family to enjoy. We have been touching up our medium sized garden over the last few weeks, adding in outdoor storage so that toys are put away and working towards making the garden more usable for everyone in our family. While planning out this garden, I figured it would be interesting to share some of the ideas I’ve had to create a more tranquil outdoor space – hopefully it helps you create your own dream garden.

Easy to manage plants

One of the first things I wanted for our backyard were plants – but I don’t really have time to actually manage a large garden, replanting flowers each and every year. Part of a tranquil outdoor space, in my opinion, should be an easy of taking care of it! So, planting flowers that grow back every year – annual plants – seemed like the best idea. We got a bunch of different tubers, followed the simple instructions of soaking them to wake them up and planted them. After they sprout and bloom for the first time, they will grow back each year, sometimes with flowers and sometimes just as plants. Flowers bring beautiful insects and just feel relaxing in your garden, so it’s always something I love to see and watch come to life.

Durable yet comfortable garden furniture

Once you have a garden that’s beautiful and relaxing, you’ll want to spend time in it! For that, you will need outdoor furniture. There are a lot of different options, but do not compromise when it comes to comfort. Having comfortable furniture that also is durable and easy to clean is far better then metal and glass furniture that you can’t sit on and enjoy for too long. When picking out furniture, you should think about the size of your space, how often your furniture might see rain and how many people you’d like hanging out in your backyard. You’ll want enough seats for everyone you’d like to enjoy your space with!

Lots of Lighting

Lighting is actually one of the first things we got for our back garden. Dann really loves colorful lighting and finds that outdoor lighting is really nice to see from inside the house. Most outdoor lights are solar powered, so you’ll need to think about where the solar panels go and how you want to hang your lights. Once you have your furniture, you’ll probably want a table side light for each table you have purchased. Additionally, we place lights along our fences in our back yard, in trees, and along walls outside. These lights twinkle and make the garden usable at night, as it’s lovely to just sit outside on warm evenings, soaking up the stars and seeing the lights flicker and shine.

Garden spa area

If you want to take your outdoor space to the next level and make the most of your space, you should consider getting a hot tub. Though cleaning your hot tub might be a bit of work, it’s more than worth having. On colder days, you can enjoy your garden, hanging out in the warm water while the jets massage your back. It’s a great way to unwind as you look out at your twinkling lights and beautiful flowers, taking in nature. Having a hot tub can make your back garden feel like a hotel stay or like some sort of vacation, all within walking distance of your own home. Luxury Spas is actually doing a giveaway for a hot tub, which you can enter by filling in your name and email on their site.
