Under the Sea Cupcake Class with Sweet Designs by Jennie

The Under the Sea Cupcake Class hosted by Sweet Designs by Jennie is a theme that she has quite often, as it’s a very fun class and not very specific to any sort of holiday. We’ve done a lot of holiday-related classes in the past, so it was nice to try out a class that feels general! Our goal is to end up going to them all. Under the Sea Cupcake Class is a fondant class which requires very little piping but had some new tools to work with.

As usual, when we arrived all of the cupcakes were already baked and everything was set out. We got a drink before settling in and checking out the details on the pictures of the cupcakes we were creating. Two of these cupcakes had cute 3D characters on them, which is our first time modeling characters! Amelia was very excited for this part, and ended up creating her own spins on the creatures, which looked absolutely adorable. Before we got into creatures, we started off by sorting out our letters and getting the sort of backgrounds done. There was a bubble background that we rolled out onto fondant as well, which Amelia was good at. We used a tool to ruffle some circles and then put our backgrounds on them, before molding our creatures.

The creatures were made very easy through the instructions by Sweet Designs by Jennie, who broke down the various parts we needed to make into easy to understand aspects, so we all could get a cute crab and octopus out by the end. The more challenging part, for everyone, was using the small shell molds to get little shells and starfish out, for decoration. These took some real learning, as you didn’t want to crush them when taking them out or fail to get the crisp edge. We used a few different techniques and ended up finding the best ones that worked for us, based on our delicate nature.

This group of six cupcakes had two of the main character ones, two simple background ones and two that had mainly frosting instead of fondant. The two frosted cakes were done by frosting half the cake, dipping it in biscuit crumbs, and then decorating the other side with a darker blue and swirling in a lighter bit of white throughout. Creating waves was fun, and we decorated the beach with our different shells that we had created. These were also my favorite to eat, as they were full of delicious buttercream!

We had another fantastic time at Jennie’s cupcake class and are already booked up for our next one next month. These classes are smaller, with a max of six people, so they work very well for a girls evening or mother-daughter time.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
