Unfiltered Me | Sharing a bit about myself

*AD/Collaboration, but as always, all views are my own.

Social media and what is put out into the world is often described as the best parts of people’s lives. They project what they want the world to see, and hide away anything else. Filters, editing, only showing good bits of life seem to be the go to way that people use the internet, however, I have always made it an effort to show the highs and lows of my life. I’ve shared unflattering pictures on Twitter, showed off moments of failure on Facebook and Instagram, and continued to just be – me. I don’t have much time to edit myself down to this perfect version, to filter until there is something that everyone will instantly go too.

Through this, I have found myself become more approachable – I am not this perfect person with a perfect life. I have imperfections, my skin isn’t baby soft, I am a real human who you can really see and talk too. When using dating sites, this is something to heavily consider, as it’s much better to be comfortable in your own skin as apposed to creating an image of something you are not. It’s important to continue to be yourself, even if yourself is quirky, funny, loud, not perfect.

Larks Live

My favorite thing to do is cook. I love baking and cooking more than anyone else I know – however, not everything I do is perfect. We often find flaws in ourselves that others wouldn’t ever even see. When I am cooking, I do not look perfect – but that’s fine, as the reality is, cooking isn’t about posing for a camera or making sure the angle is perfect. A lot of my foods that I create are also just like me – not perfect. I have made pies that didn’t end up with enough color on the top dough, frittatas that had to be dug out of the pan, loosing their shape and spring rolls that aren’t quite tight enough. I’m still proud of each of these foods though, because I enjoyed making them and I enjoyed eating them.

We live in a world that’s projected through screens, where people can easily create the life they want to have, instead of just living it. If you learn to love the imperfections – enjoy pie without a completely good color and eat spring rolls that are a bit loose – you might find that the life you are living is far more worth it, even without being completely perfect. Being yourself is so important – being true to yourself, true to who you are, and spending the time doing what you love and showing it off – on dating apps or just on general social media. Overtime, you’ll even find the confidence to love your mistakes and imperfections. It’s time we all start loving ourselves fully.
