A Day Out at Waffles & More

Waffles & More

Waffles & More have opened up a branch in Harlow, and Dann really wanted to go there for his birthday! Not for the waffles and sweet treats, but for the “more”. You see, Waffles & More have a big sign outside about their upstairs arcade. On the first day they opened, Dann went up there and had a little sneak peak, and since has been trying to get someone, anyone to have a birthday party in their arcade.

The Waffles & More arcade has a set fee for unlimited play for an hour, with an ice or hot drink for an additional 1ยฃ per person. We went for the hour deal, with the drinks. Amelia, Kai, Robin and I all got slushies while Dann got a coffee. They actually deliver your drinks to you, so that none of your time is taken up by waiting for drinks. We all got wrist bands with the time we needed to be out of there by, and then we went upstairs to the arcade! There are like four arcade machines downstairs, kind of advertising upstairs, but these have the same games as the ones upstairs.

The arcade itself is quite big, with a giant table down the middle. We had the place to ourself, which was a nice little touch. All of the machines set up actually had thousands of games on them, allowing you to pick through them. I found this to be a little overwhelming, especially for our kids who didn’t really know the names of the games or how to get out of the sports menu that all of them seemed to be set on. Dann ended up sending a lot of time challenging Robin to Street Fighter, and then took on Kai and Amelia as well. I flipped through a lot of games, playing based on the preview, but also floated around just hanging out.

As the kids were a bit overwhelmed, they ended up going on a lot of the large tables at the back of the arcade. Waffles & More has two air hocky tables – one in better nick then the other – as well as a few foosball tables and a button table. This button table was probably the family favourite, as you had to quickly slam down on buttons as they light up! This wasn’t in great condition, with four buttons broken on the red side and two broken on the blue side, but it was still very fun to play around with and we just switched sides after each round.

The idea of having open access to so many arcade games at Waffles & More is very nice – I just do wish more of the machines were set up to classic games, so that there was a good starting point, and the tables themselves were looked after well. It is good value for the price, but could be better with just a bit of upkeep. The slushies themselves were good, and we were able to play for beyond our hour, as we were the only people there.

Looks like a really fun place for everyone! You don’t see arcades any longer so it’s really cool to have a place like that to check out and visit!
