Everyone wanted to go to another light trail, before they all disappeared, so we headed to Warwick Castle Christmas Light Trail, which is a very long light trail! There are a few different ticket options for this special event – you can add on going to the castle and add on light skating. We got tickets for the castle and added on the Christmas Light Trail, but will be showcasing the castle in another review. The light trail started as soon as it got dark, so we headed straight in!
At the entrance to the light trail, there are a bunch of Christmas Market stalls – gifts from the castle, burgers, roasted marshmallows, all the classic things. Though nothing stood out as particularly unique, it had everything we expected. From there, we headed off to the trail, which was easy to see due to all of the lights being projected onto the castle itself. Seeing the castle lit up from the outside was already quite a site – as it was colorful and fun. The entrance is two rainbow light tunnels, with a sign welcoming you in the middle. It’s a bright and vibrant start. There was a sign explaining an eye-spy where people could spot little knights who are dotted around the grounds. Robin got particularly excited about this and kept an eye out for them.
The trail was very well placed out, with there being lots of points to stop and take photos! They had a giant Happy New Year all lit up, a large Christmas tree, a bunch of those photo frames but with very nice backgrounds – if you are one who likes family photos, there are plenty to be seen here. The music themed around each area was also very nice, with a lot of matching music to where you wanted to go. There were two big top tents, which were made of only lights, that were drawing us in. This area, once you went through, was full of food carts, warmers and circus mirrors which was very fun! I almost thought this was the end of the trail, but there was so much more.
We continued on to see some of the Christmas specific aspects of the Warwick Castle Christmas Light Trail – there was a sitting area where you could wait to meet Santa and a post box where you could write a Christmas letter to him. These areas were, understandably, shut with a big sign over them saying that Santa had gone home. Over the water, we could also see a lit-up Gingerbread house. There was an interaction here – a giant button that you could push, which caused the trebuchet to light up, some audio of people talking to begin, and then a small fire to appear ahead of you as if you launched something. There was a slight delay on this, but it was very fun to watch. Another light tunnel brought us to an area of laser like lights, that everyone loved dashing about, before showing us the front of the castle.
Warwick Castle Christmas Light Trail did a fantastic job of using the castle as a centre peice. The castle had lots of different patterns of light, lighting up to the music playing around them. It was stunning to watch! We then got to go inside the castle, where there were more fantastic lights. The end of the light trail had Taylor Swift playing along some hearts, which felt like a good closing as at the start there is a talking tree that also played Taylor Swift. Clearly, it’s a very modern trail! The end spits you out so you can get straight to the carpark, no temptation from further food stalls. In the end, Robin voted this as the best light trail of the year, because there was so much! Amelia and Kai put it firmly in second place, so we will likely be back next year.
