Dann and I are really big fans of What We Do in the Shadows! It’s a funny TV series that doesn’t take itself too seriously, about vampires trying (and failing) to take over New York City. These vampires are funny, don’t really understand the modern world, and are just a joy to watch. I was super excited to hear that Four Quarters are hosting a What We Do in the Shadows themed Halloween Party at their Elephant and Castle location!
A little background on the event; on October 27th and 28th, they are hosting the Halloween Party. Four Quarters is a pretty unique bar, there are tons of classic, American arcade machines that cost American quarters to play! You can bring your own quarters or you can purchase some, to use on the machines. Along with this, for the Halloween Party, there will be screenings of the TV Show What We Do in the Shadows, music and endless games! The venue will be decorated and there are themed drinks and food. I am particularly excited to try Updog (a mix of blood orange gin, cranberry juice, orange juice, lemon and grenadine, topped with watermelon Red Bull). This party is going to be super fun, and as there are prizes for the best costume, I wanted to dive into costume ideas from What We Do in the Shadows.
Energy Vampires
Energy Vampires are featured throughout What We Do in the Shadows, with Colin being the first one you are introduced to in the show. Energy Vampires are vampires that do not actually suck blood or have sharp teeth. They don’t turn into a bat or avoid the sun either. To be the most common Energy Vampire, you need to blend in and look boring. We are talking lots of beige office wear. Beige shirts or jumpers, washed out colors, and dated designs. These sorts of clothing look boring and blend in, which is often the goal of energy vampires.
Classic Vampires
Classic vampires from What We Do in The Shadows also have their own style. These look dated, but in a different way; the main vampires in the show are dressed like how they would have dressed with they died. These vampires do have sharp teeth, and often smudged make-up if they were feeding recently! They tend to pick clothing that feels more distinct and that looks quite old but still can fit in. I am choosing to wear a velvet and black lace dress and a high white neck collar for my look, with smudged lipstick of course!
Familiars
If you feel like you do not have an outfit, you can always go as a familiar. Familiars look like every-day people, really, as they are someone from this time period who follow around a vampire to do all of their deeds. This works best as a couples costume, with one of you being a classic vampire (as energy vampires do not have familiars). A lot of dressing like a familiar is acting like a familiar; asking your master what needs to be done next, reminding them, and chatting garbage with other familiars. Familiars want to become vampires, but aren’t vampires yet – but they are not allowed to be hunted by other vampires.
Vampires in What We Do in the Shadows are pretty easy when it comes to Halloween Costumes – so I am excited to see how everyone dresses for the event at Four Quarters!
I have not seen this show. We do not usually do halloween, but this year have two nights out one for day of the dead with our daughter for her birthday, the other a party
That actually sounds like such a great show! I’ve not heard of it until now but just reading the synopsis made me laugh. I’ll have to check it out 😀
I love these ideas! I’m a huge fan of the show, and I love that you included energy vampires.
I’ve never seen this one “What we do in the shadows” I am very intrigued! I will check it out….You can’t go wrong with vampire lol…
Oh wow, sounds like it’s going to be a spooktacular Halloween Party! I haven’t watched the What We Do in the Shadows series yet. I think I must dress up as a Familiar vampire for the event at Four Quarters 😀
