Frankly, I think I am just going to start writing about these Willow & Wild boxes each month, as they are a fantastic time. This November, the box had three main activities along with the normal information cards and recipes. The children really enjoyed this box – Kai has taken to some science boxes and has been doing them instead, while Amelia and Robin have been really enjoying the box, nature and the activities that come with it.
First, we did the Christmas gift activities – which was creating bee flower bombs. These were made by making clay circles, adding in compost and some flower seeds, then adding more compost around the outside. These bombs had their own little bag to go into and a Christmas tag that can go around them. Amelia made two little balls and one big ball, while Robin did four little balls. The balls did get quite messy, which is really just a part of the fun. We also planted our microgreens, which were beet microgreens. As I’ve said many times before, the kids really enjoy the planting element of this, and they regularly check in to see how things are growing.
The other major project that the kids really enjoyed was fruit panting! The Willow & Wild box had two napkins and two coloured paints (yellow and red) – the idea being that you cut up your own fruit and make prints with them! The kids enjoyed panting with peppers, onions, pumpkins, celery and carrots – creating designs and having fun. These napkins are actually permanent, as you just need to iron them when they dry and the print will stay. Robin and Amelia enjoyed this activity the best, and it kept them occupied for a while too.
The recipe for this month is a smoothie with microgreens and there are some great pieces of information about squirrels and Fall becoming winter, which the kids did enjoy hearing about. Willow & Wild have some great boxes, and the sibling box has continued to provide a bunch of fun activities for the house.
