On our adventures of going to more Light Trails, we wanted to visit one more to round out the Christmas season. So, we went to the Windsor Great Park Illuminated Light Trail, which was massive, but started at a classic Christmas food area, with a bunch of rides. This area, unlike Wimpole Estate’s light trail, isn’t ticketed, so it was very busy, full of people ordering from the massive amount of food stands and riding on different rides. It’s a good collection of food, actually, one of the best we have been to this year!
We went onto the light trail walk, which is along the side of the main area, and is quite vast. The first bit of the trail has a big photo area, leading to sculpture piece which has a bunch of lights being showcased on it, changing the design. This looks like trees, which is interesting, and a good opener to the start of the trail. From there, there is a walk that shows tons of lights above, feeling like an interesting entrance!
The Windsor Great Park Illuminated Light Trail had a fairy walk area, where we got to see the most impressive fairies yet – as they were very detailed and clear. There was an over-arcing story about a dragon who has taken over the land. This story was them shown in little areas through the rest of the walk, where we followed the fairies, saw their home (which had another projection that showed a bunch of fairies playing around) and then went to the first food area of the walk. There were several top-up areas where we could purchase snacks and hot chocolate, along with crepes, chips and more. This place actually had the best food selection that we have seen this year!
There was a really impressive pond light show, where jets of illuminated water moved along to music, creating a really fun scene that we all were mesmerize by. This was one of the reasons we wanted to visit this specific light trail, as Robin really loves water-related lights! The whole trail actually had magical music and lots of stuff that flowed to music, but this was the most impressive. We went on to see a fairy disco, that had the kids dancing, before joining a more magical walk through the forest, that had things like light portals and dragon crossing signs. We even got to see magical creatures like dragons projected into the forest! It was magical and mystical. There were plenty of light bridges and fairy wing points to stop and take photos by too! There were those light up roots as well, all along the forest floor.
I really enjoyed the Windsor Great Park Illuminated Light Trail, as there was just so much to see and everything was very high quality. The illuminations themselves were really fun, though there wasn’t any sort of interaction points and instead was about discovery! I love the idea of the story that went through it all, and ending at the same starting point allowed us to look at tons of food and grab some more snacks before we were ready to head off! It’s a magical experience for all.
