Winter Creatures Cupcake Class with Sweet Designs by Jennie

Every month, for over a year now, we have gone to a cupcake class by Sweet Designs by Jennie. These classes are fantastic – we always have so much fun and it’s a great time for Amelia and I to bond, one on one, so makes for a fantastic mother-daughter activity. This time, however, to celebrate Amelia and her best friend’s friendship day, we took along her bestie to try it out. These classes are on the smaller side, being a maximum of 6 people, so everything feels very cozy and easy to follow.

We got in early, with Amelia’s friend grabbing an apron, and sat down. As it’s nearly the holidays, there were chocolates for us to eat, along with the normal drink selection, and hot chocolate too! We got our drinks and got down to creating cupcakes. These cupcakes are already pre-baked, with instruction cards given to us, and all of the items we need to decorate are beautifully set out. We started with the white fondant, which many of the items were made out of, creating the bases for three of our cupcakes. These little bases would then have cute fondant creatures and an igloo put on them, but they need time to harden up.

We used texture tools, lots of different cutting tools, and carving tools to create all sorts of things. It’s really just a lot of creating and a lot of fun! Though some of the animals seem more complex then others, Jennie is able to break them into different steps that are just easy to follow. It’s a big “trust the process” with some of these, but I am so happy with how my penguins came out, and Amelia was very proud of her reindeer. I also very much liked how different these animals were, with the reindeer sitting up, the polar bear stuck in some waves, and the penguins being such a different shape. We also made an igloo too.

Along with the four different fondant topped cupcakes, we also had two flat-topped cupcakes that were primarily piped. These were done with two different piping tips, giving them a split look, and had some fondant shapes added on from a pump-cutter and some sprinkles. Amelia and her bestie both covered their finished cupcakes with powdered sugar, to act as snow, which is an Amelia staple. Her friend said it was so much fun, and we hope to all go along again in the future! Sweet Designs by Jennie has so many new designs planned for 2026, and we are well excited for our next class.

You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
