8 Easy Spooky Treats for Halloween

Updated: October 9th, 2021 to add more treats.

We have been cooking up a storm in our household – from healthy foods like soups to anything with pumpkin puree to sweet treats perfect for a party or packed lunch! I wanted to share some of the best, spooky, delicious treats for you to enjoy with your family. As we love to theme everything, it’s so fun to share these recipes with you, and I hope you do get to try some of them out! If you would like to watch me create some spooky lunches, fun breakfasts and more, I also have a TikTok where I create recipe videos!

Monster Wraps

Making a great and filling lunch, we created some of these monster wraps. The idea is simple – create a wrap of your choice, then cut some hair out of sliced cheese and make some eyes out of olives sliced up (though you could use red pepper to make eyes, if your not a fan of olives). We filled our wrap with red pepper hummus, cucumbers and slices of chicken, and then decorate them once they are rolled up. These impress so much in packed lunches!

Ghost Chocolate Strawberries

If you are looking for a sweet treat, you can make some easily with just a few ingredients. You can grab some white chocolate and melt it down. Then dip some dry but clean strawberries into the chocolate. Once you have your strawberries dipped, you can sprinkle on Halloween themed sprinkles, or use a black icing packet to create gel icing eyes and a mouth, creating a little ghost! These set quickly in the fridge and are great for a little dessert.

Mummy Hot Dogs

Another simple, savory treat that takes just a few ingredients are mummy hot dogs. You just need a can of pre-made crescent rolls and a bunch of your favorite hot dogs. We cut our hot dogs in half, as we used them as a party snack, and then wrapped each hot dog in a strip of crescent roll. You can then bake them in the oven as per the crescent roll instructions, but keep an eye on them as they will bake fast – and take out once brown. This is a fun activity for children to do, as there is no wrong way to wrap a hot dog mummy!

Meringue Ghosts

If you are a fan of meringues, you can whip up a batch using your own, favorite recipe, and then pip them out to be ghosts! Ours didn’t end up getting as stiff as we would have liked, but once the ghosts are pipped out (as a head, with a body under and a tail sticking out) you can bake them off. Once they are done, using some gel icing, you can draw faces or eyes on them, to create ghost figures. Meringues always taste really good, and it’s quite fun pipping them into ghosts!

Gingerbread Skeletons

We actually saw this idea in a magazine sent through the post! We saw little gingerbread skeletons and decided to kick them up a notch. Using your favorite gingerbread recipe, you can use either Halloween cookie cutters (like cats and bats) or use the normal gingerbread ones you have to cut out your cookies. Once they are cut out, you can use royal icing to pipe out bones! We kinda went wild with these, not making them actually accurate. If you have any of those edible markers, you can allow your family members to add details to the faces, but it does go from cute-spooky to terrifying fast!

S’mores Dip

S’mores dip is a really easy dessert that can go perfect with your spooky Halloween movie night or with a spooky story telling! This treat takes me back to toasting marshmallows on an open fire, but within the safety and warmth of my home. In an oven safe dish, you need to cover the bottom with either chocolate chips or chunks of chocolate, then cover the top with marshmallows! The smaller the mellows the better they melt down. Once it is all set up – and it is just that easy – whack it into the oven with the grill on high and keep an eye on the dish until the marshmallows toast. Take it out and dip digestive biscuits into it, creating a dip for your cookies!

Candy Apples

Candy apples are a must this time of year! We make our own by combining 2 cups sugar, 3/4 cups water and 1/2 cup glucose into a pot over medium heat. Using a food thermometer, watch the heat get to around 150 degrees celcius. Once it reaches this temperature, take it off of the heat and dip either whole apples or apple chunks into the mixture, then dip them in whatever toppings you’d like! We go for sprinkles and pecans.

Calzone Mummies

When it comes to more savoury options, we make calzone mummies each and every year. The real trick is in the folding of the dough – though I didn’t get any lovely pictures this year (I blame me wanting to eat instead of thinking about how I might want to include this in a blogpost later) but you can actually check out my full recipe on the B&M website, where I collabed with them last Halloween on their blog!

This post is apart of our Blogtober series, all with a Halloween or Autumn theme.

Aww! The gingerbread skeletons are so cute and look like a lot of fun to make and the S’mores dip sounds so good. We’ve made Calazone mummies before and they went down so well. x
