Hertfordshire offers a wide variety of things to do and places to see. Visitors can choose from charming villages, glorious countryside, historical buildings and boutique shops and restaurants. There are also plenty of family attractions, such as theatres, zoos, parks and museums.
Whether you are visiting for the day or you are planning a weekend break, there are so many places to discover in and around Hertfordshire. To help you plan your next family day out (or adult only escape!) in Hertfordshire, here are my top five things to do…
Family fun
For a fun day out with the whole family, you could head to Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne. It is famous for its big cats, but also offers a dinosaur trail, adventure golf, a splash park and indoor and outdoor play areas. If you want to make your day even more memorable you can also book one of their zookeeper or animal feeding experiences.
Food & Drink
If you are looking for a little indulgence, what about booking an afternoon tea? There are some really special afternoon tea venues dotted around Hertfordshire. My recommendation is The Enchanted Tea Rooms, set in the heart of Redbourn. This is a family run tea room in a grade II listed building, offering afternoon tea, cream teas, light lunches and cakes.
Stately Home
Knebworth House is a Tudor stately home near Stevenage, which is famous for its beautiful gardens and summer concerts. Knebworth House offers a great day out for all the family, with fun activities for children and lots to do for all ages, including an adventure playground, dinosaur trail and tours of house and gardens. They also hold special events and music concerts throughout the summer.
Relaxation
Craving a nice massage or just some peace and quiet away from the kids? Hertfordshire is not lacking in choice when it comes to spa locations, including the magnificent Hanbury Manor in Ware. This is a Jacobean-style manor house, which is part of the Marriott Hotel group. It is set in 200 acres of beautiful countryside in Ware and offers a full menu of restorative treatments such as massage, body wraps, facials and nail services. You can also enjoy their leisure centre with a heated indoor pool and steam room.
Theatre
Finally, if you’d love a theatre trip, but you don’t fancy the hustle and bustle of London city, there is a great selection of local theatres in and around Hertfordshire. This is great way to spend a date night or a perfect place to entertain the kids on a weekend. Hertford Theatre is one of my favourites. It is not just a theatre, but it is also a cinema, gallery, studio and café; offering everything from celebrity stand-up comedy to Christmas pantomimes.
