A Day Out at Mr. Mulligan’s Adventure Golf

Mr. Mulligan

The children seem to really enjoy themed adventure golf and Mr. Mulligan’s has an indoor golf course, something we’ve never been out too. Seeing that the weather is cold and somewhat rainy, an indoor course is just what we were looking for! We ended up opting for the one in Stevenage which has a giant submarine on the top of the building, which is really cool to see from the outside.

Once inside, we had the option of one of two courses; an easier, under the sea course or a more challenging jungle themed course. As Robin is three and most of the time can be found kicking the ball with her feet or just dropping it into the end hole after giving up, we decided to go into the under the sea area. This was themed with mermaids, octopuses, sea creatures and had a boat of it’s own. The course itself was quite compact, which is the main downside of being indoors. Many of the holes were right on top of each other, which meant that it was hard to find a place to stand while someone was taking their turn or while waiting.

Inside the Boat

Despite that small grievance, we had a really lovely time playing through the ocean course. The first few holes were an easy warm up and soon we were on a rope bridge and inside of a ship. The ship hole was cute – the inside decorated with some barrels. The outside of the boat had different, moving colours on it to look like water washing up against the sides. The inside had a light that mirrored this, meaning it was a bit dark, but over all interesting in the way that it looked. The hole itself was tricky but fun and lead us onto a few more small holes before we went into another main attraction of this course.

The Neon Hall

When the staff were explaining the different courses, one of the things they said was that the ocean path had a neon room where everything glowed. Intrigued, we wanted to experience this room. There were about 6 holes inside, each with different under the sea sculptures like starfish and octopuses, glowing in the neon lighting. Each of the holes have sniping, colourful lights dancing around them. The walls are painted to look like you are under the sea – this was truly one of the coolest areas we have ever played golf in. A few of the holes here had tunnels your ball could go in, appearing out the other side. The very last hole actually has you hitting your ball through a hole into the outside area, which can be seen through a small window.

A Small Ramp & The Last Hole

There was one hole which sort of showcased how Mr. Mulligan’s Adventure Golf was trying to put 18 holes in too small of an area. Much like the game Plinko, you could hit the ball up a ramp, where it then landed in one of three different areas. These different areas had numbers on them, telling you the number to add to the hits you had already took. It’s an interesting idea – the ramp, but it clearly was put in to save space – something that seemed very conscious in the entire design.

Another stand out hole, as it should be, was the final one where your ball disappears forever. This area was split on two different floors, with each of us putting our ball into what looked like whirl pool holes – with dancing, ocean like lights, before they popped out below. Then, you can continue going until you’ve hit them in the hole where they disappear. This hole was actually quite big comparatively. Once our balls were in, our time was up and we headed back!

Mr. Mulligan’s Adventure Golf also has a full bar and ice cream area, which is nice if you want to stay for dessert or want a drink. Despite the course being pretty small, it was a fun time – especially for our first indoor course.

This looks like a lot of fun! It does look like they’ve put a lot into a small space, but made up for that with some exciting themes. Mini golf is always a fun adventure ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much for sharing your review! We have a Mr Mulligans near us but wasn’t sure it would be suitable for our almost 3 year old – now I think we might give it a go even if only for the more sensory aspect rather than the game side of things. (Oh and desserts too, of course!)
