When trying to deice something to do over the weekend, we ended up finding that there were some escape rooms at Lakeside! Escape Hunt actually is within Boom Battle Bar, which was interesting and slightly hard to find, but we were excited to take on Alice in Puzzleland. It had been a while since we all have done an Escape Room, and we were pumped.

The Alice in Puzzleland room at Escape Hunt isn’t one that you are able to take pictures in, as the room itself is on the smaller side and it would reveal some of the puzzles. When we arrived, we waited by a big sign for the room, before our host took us in. She explained some rules around the room; things like you don’t need to force anything open, fire safety, and that there was a bell on the table if we needed hints. Then, a story played from above telling us about how the Mad Rabbit has been arrested and that he needs someone to both solve the crime and to set up the tea party before all of the guests arrive.
The beginning of the escape is actually outside the Mad Rabbit’s house. The first thing Kai did was pick up the bell and ask what it did, ringing it, but we spoke to the guide and let them know that we in fact didn’t need a hint yet! There were some easy to spot clues dotted about, but the room got progressively more challenging. I thought it would be quite quick and easy, just based on the space, but the room did end up opening up and we actually had to use the hints a few times, before we ended up barely completing the room!
Alice in Puzzleland was a photo finish. After Robin and Amelia spent a bunch of time solving stuff, we got stuck as the lights when off and the last minute was being counted down. Kai appeared out of nowhere with the final objects we needed to complete the room ,which was absolutely frantic and fantastic. We all escaped, and ended up getting a time card that said we had less then 20 seconds left when we finished. I couldn’t believe it! Despite the small size, Alice in Puzzleland was a fun, well themed room with a lot of very clever puzzles. Our family really enjoyed it, and we will be going back to check out more of their rooms in the future.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
That last moment tension really gets on to you. Even when you know its just for fun, but what a relief and accomplishment you feel once its done. Must have been fun
