Artificial vs real grass

Lawn Mower

So, you’ve got a spot in the garden and you’re trying to figure out what will look best with it? Do you prefer artificial grass or natural grass?! There are numerous advantages to each type of grass, but let’s face it, there are probably 100 things you’d rather be doing on your day off than mowing the lawn. As a result of this and other factors, artificial grass sales in the garden have increased dramatically in the United Kingdom. We’ve opted to sift through all of the information to tell you everything you need to know about artificial and real lawn grass for your garden.

First of all, let’s differentiate… The term “real grass” refers to grass that has been cultivated from grass seeds or sod. Sod is a rug-like roll of grass and dirt that is laid out and grows into your lawn, bound together by netting or cut grassroots. Artificial grass is a surface made up of synthetic grass blades that are designed to resemble real grass. Artificial grass is also known by the names fake grass, plastic grass, astroturf, astro, and turf. These titles, for the most part, are all referring to the same thing: Artificial Grass.

Maintenance

The worst thing you can do with your natural lawn is ignore it, since it will cost you even more to clean it up. You only need to remove leaves and debris on a regular basis with a leaf blower, stiff brush, or plastic rake. The best way to avoid this is to keep your natural grass in good condition at all times. During the summer, water your yard well. Mow and fertilize your grass regularly. Whereas, artificial grass upkeep is simple and does not take up much of your time. You only need to remove leaves and debris on a regular basis with a leaf blower, stiff brush, or plastic rake. Weed killers should be applied twice a year. And finally, to remove any pee from your pets, use an artificial lawn deodorizer spray (as needed).

Aesthetic

Because the color, texture, and height of the blades are all affected by external factors such as the season, real grass can quickly change appearance. Artificial grass is always picture-perfect. The blades are the same height and color throughout the year. Artificial grass is frequently chosen by those who demand a flawless lawn all year.

Costs

Real grass lawn sod rolls are less expensive to install. Mowing, fertilizing, and watering, on the other hand, involve additional costs. Watering your natural grass will result in a hefty water bill. Plus, every week, mowing will take at least 30 minutes of your time. The initial cost of installing artificial grass is significantly higher. However, the expense of upkeep is far lower than that of genuine grass. You have no water expense with fake grass, you can sell your lawn mower, and your maintenance time is substantially reduced.

While I see the appeal of this, I am all about letter nature do what it does and this seems a little unnatural. But that said if we had a small outdoor area then I would definitely consider this.

I had a friend with artificial grass before and they loved not having to maintain it. Our HOA doesn’t allow that, so it isn’t an option. But we pay the teenager next door to mow for us so at least my husband doesn’t have to do that.

Wow I didn’t even know you could buy artificial grass. I haven’t see it yet here in the US, though that doesn’t mean it’s not popular here now too. I honestly am behind on trends. 🙂

I think honestly for me it is all about the real thing. I love dirt and getting my hands dirty weeding and planting but I can also appreciate the perfect lawn that never needs to be mowed and you always have a beautiful space to look upon. It is also green in that you do not need to water it so you are helping preserve or reduce water usage which is good too.
