Checking out St Clare Summer Fayre 2025

When it comes to fayres, England seems to have a lot of them! St Clare Summer Fayre is a yearly event, this one being the second we have gone too. Earlier last year, we got more involved with St Clare’s Hospice, which is what this fayre is put on for. Years ago, Dann’s sister lived out her final days at the hospice, which took very good care of her, so they do have a soft spot in our families heart. The fayre is aimed at raising money for the hospice, but also has stalls from other local charities, along with games and stands of fun stuff to do.

Dinner at La Norma

When walking around the bay, we hadn’t really planned where we wanted to eat and instead just continued walking until something caught our eye. The restaurant we ended up at was La Norma, which has a small menu divided into fun categories called things like “I LOVE FISH” and “I LOVE MEAT”, to give an idea of what you are in the mood for. They have both upstairs outdoor seating, indoor seating, and seating by the sea! After being out in the wind, we opted for indoor seating, but do like the option to sit by the sea if the weather is fantastic.

Panic Room Harlow – Sherlock Holmes Room

Last year, at Robin’s international evening at school, she won a raffle prize and picked vouchers for the Panic Room in Harlow. As it’s been a year since that’s happened, we finally got around to using the vouchers, as this weekend was extremely rainy and we needed a good indoor activity. We’ve done several escape rooms previously, which is probably why Robin picked this voucher among all of the toys that were on the table. Panic Room Harlow has a few different rooms to pick from, but Robin chose the Sherlocks Holmes room, primarily because she’s a detective and he’s a detective, so it sounded like a great fit.

Lunch at Rainbow and Dove Pub

When looking for a place for a lunch with one of our friends, Dann came across the Rainbow and Dove Pub. At the moment, we are trying to go to every place to eat in all of Harlow this year, to see what the best places are. Neither Dann and I ever really pick pubs – it’s just something we aren’t that curious about, so it’s been fun to try new pubs and see what they are like. The Rainbow and Dove is an award winning independent pub with an ever-changing menu. They have a wine of the month, burger of the month, and tons of daily specials that are dependent on the produce that the pub has received, as well as pub classics that are always there.

The Sandcastles of Burgundy – Perfect for Summer

[Ad- gifted product] The Sandcastles of Burgundy is a cute, fun game all about gathering materials from under sand castles to stock different markets within your town. The game itself is a race, where everyone is trying to finish up their towns as fast as possible, earning new points as they could. We got to play The Sandcastles of Burgundy at our local Geek Retreat, as a part of our bi-weekly board game night, which was a perfect start to the warm, summer season. It’s a simple, more adorable version of The Castles of Burgundy, in case you want to get your children started early.
