Amelia and I had such a good time at our last cupcake class with Sweet Designs by Jennie, that she’s been eagerly waiting for the next one! When Sweet Designs by Jennie released her Autumn Cupcake Class, I booked it up instantly. Amelia and I both very much enjoy baking and cooking together, so getting the chance to decorate six beautiful cupcakes each, as an afternoon on our own, just makes sense for our household!
The Autumn Cupcake Class provides literally everything you’ll need to get into decorating; there are six beautifully baked cupcakes, tons of different dyed fondant, lots of tools, and of course the guidance of Sweet Designs by Jennie, who is a very bubbly person and a fantastic teacher. The classes themselves are small, this one having five people decorating. Previously, we decorated pipped cupcakes, which were a lot of piping work, but this time it was more focused on fondant.
Everyone is creating the cupcakes as pictured in a guide photo, which is on the table in front of you. This sort of guide helped us know how many leaves, small ivy leaves and big ivy leaves we needed, though everyone was encouraged to deviate from the colors that you might want to prefer. I had not used plunger-style stamps before for fondant, so it was interesting learning exactly how to press them and how thin to roll out the fondant so that the cupcake designs were perfect. We also used a letter stamp, which actually was very challenging, where the letters need to be upside-down and also put in backwards to stamp a word on one of our cupcakes!
In these classes, there are always two cupcakes that are really stand out, taking a lot of work, and in this box it was the word cupcake and one that lad a little fire on it (with us making the logs by hand!). The side cupcakes also have a lot of work, but one of them was primarily piped and the other one had lots of leaves placed on it. The leaves were even shaped and then let to dry on a stand, so they had some movement to them – a fantastic idea.
We were able to make details with small sprinkles, learning how to stick them (as well as fondant) on with a wet brush. In the end, we also got to paint lots of edible glitter on, which was perfect for covering up any details that were less than idea. There were so many interesting techniques that were passed on to us, by Sweet Designs by Jennie, who always is open to answering any questions and is just fantastic for conversation. Amelia and I are both extremely excited (and already booked in) for our next one!
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!

These autumn cup cakes are too cute! Your kiddo is also super skillful with piping on the icing! The deco makes me think of the little digital treats I’d make for my pokemon on Pokemon XY, lol.
