Blogmas Tag 2021

This year, we have decided to do Blogmas once again! Blogmas is where you post every single day in the month of December. As we tend to post every single day anyway, we have decided to ensure that half of our posts (every other day) are Christmas or Winter themed. These posts will feel more wintery, starting with this one! Blogmas is a really interesting challenge, and we will be working hard to complete it. To start off Blogmas, we figured we’d do a winter-themed tag!

What is your favorite winter treat?

I really love Snowballs – those marshmallows, covered in chocolate and coconut, though they are around all year long, I seem to only ever remember them in the wintertime. Dann’s faorite winter treat is, hands down, stollen. As soon as he sees stollen in the shops, we start buying them up, for him to enjoy.

What Christmas Traditions do you celebrate?

Salt Dough Ornaments

When it comes to Christmas Traditions, we always decorate the Christmas Tree together, getting all of the ornaments and taking turns putting them on the tree. Each year, we get a real tree, which we pick out at a tree farm. It’s always something really fun that we all do – one year my brother even joined us for the festivities.

Are you wishing for snow this year?

I feel like it’s already been a really cold winter. I really dislike the cold, and find that being out in the cold is really hard! I do, at the same time, love the look of the snow covering everything, so I am wishing for a sprinkling of snow. As we live in the UK, there isn’t ever much snow anyway, so a sprinkling should be do-able and fine. If not, we always have some grow your own snow floating around the house!

What is your favorite Christmas Movie?

My favorite Christmas Movie is The Year Without a Santa Claus. It’s an old claymation movie that has the Heat Miser and Snow Miser working together to switch the weather around the world, so that Santa will continue being apart of Christmas. It’s something I have watched every year since I was a little one. Dann’s favorite is always Home Alone, the original one, which I love too. They are both such classics!

Have you ever built a gingerbread house? What is your technique?

Whenever I build gingerbread houses, I use cans to hold the walls together, until the icing has set. I find that building gingerbread houses is something that is always going to be super messy, but not putting heavy candy on the roof of the house is really important, as heavy candy seems to fall right off, melting the icing along with it!

What Hot Chocolate do you like best?

I really like black forest hot chocolate, which is normally in coffee shops the entire month of November and December. At home, all of my hot chocolates include whipped cream and marshmallows too!

What gift are you hoping to get this year?

For Christmas this year, most of my requested gifts are actually kitchen-related. I am looking to revamp a lot of our serving spoons, salad spoons, and ladle. That way, we have some fancy serving items for when we have big dinners!

What is your warmest wintertime memory?

A memory I always have is waking up, in the early morning, and being the first to take a look at the Christmas tree. With the windows behind it at my dad’s house, you could see the snow, freshly fallen, in such a still neighbourhood. The tree was always so full of lights, with many, many sparkly presents underneath it. It’s an amazing view. Dann fondly remembers being a kid and his more direct family going up to see his nan and grandad. His family was always so happy, the house was warm, there was a lot of food. He says it was a lot of fun talking, being a family, and at the end of it we would all sleep over there, spending some of the next day at theirs. It was always a lovely time of year.

As this is now traditional, we wrote up the questions and passed them on to a bunch of bloggers who are also doing Blogmas. Check out their blogs to see even more Blogmas content!

I love seeing things like this to get me into the spirit. My favorite treat this time of year is one of those thick candy canes, I need to get one before they sell out. I always love them.

  3. Jasmine Martin says:

I have never did Blogmas before, but it’s awesome that you’re doing it and going to be consistent. Also I’ll definitely try out Black Forest hot chocolate. I’ve never heard of that brand before.

Ours falls apart too, to be honest! A few years back I told the kids if it falls apart when decorating, it means you get to start eating it, and now they tend to build them up then give them a little whack.

my fav winter treat – butternut squash risotto, or “squasharoni” / butternut squash baked mac & cheese. my grandma always cooks this and part of our holiday tradition.

Blogmas…I like that. Very appropriate for this holiday season.

My favorite winter treat is actually ginger snap cookies. I eat them in great abundance during the coldest months of the year. A Christmas tradition that we celebrate in my family is watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on Christmas Eve at 8pm local. I never wish for snow at any point of the year. In my line of work, it’s a nuisance. In terms of Christmas films, I have co-favorites: “A Christmas Story” and “Die Hard”. The Christmas gift I’m hoping for in 2021 is the opportunity to make it home to celebrate with my family since I’m working abroad.
