Halloween at Cammas Hall 2021

Cammas Hall is a place we do go from time to time, mainly to pick fruits. It’s local, always has great produce, and is just a fun day out for the family. This year, they are doing a special, ticketed, Halloween event – alongside a Corn Maize and their regular pick your own pumpkin patch. We wanted the full experience – so we grabbed the Halloween tickets and headed over.

These tickets basically allow you to go through a spooky trail, which is very children friendly. The area is covered over, so that it is a bit dark and a bit spooky. All along the trail, there has been spider webs, decorations and animatronics. If you walk slowly down, you will find brooms hidden among the branches, spider webs with big fake spiders in them, and areas that you can interact with. We ended up touching the dials on a TV and watching it come to life, claiming it was stealing my soul. Ghosts fly back and forth on the path, and otherwise there is just a lot to see and take in. Nothing at Cammas Hall is too scary – Robin, who is the youngest of our family, walked through it perfectly fine, only commenting on the spider that jumps out as being scary.

At the end of the first tunnel, there is another area with monster children playing, a giant headless horsemen character that talks when you are near it, and a grave yard, then you can walk down the other side – which is a similar covered area. Walking up and down the path with you are a few characters – a pumpkin person and a witch. The witch was able to give everyone stickers and talk about the forest. She is not very good at magic though – and tried to distract a giant spider from jumping out, but failed, which Amelia and Robin found to be super funny. The pumpkin character didn’t talk much, but did talk to the various spiders and monsters along the path, petting them and turning them on and off as she pleased.

Once we made it to the end of the tunnel, we got to walk over a big bridge into the pumpkin area. I wanted to stop along the bridge and take pictures, but the witch and scarecrow, which was on the other side, basically rushed us off – no idea why though as we were the only people inside the haunted pathway! Either way, we entered the pumpkin patch and had a look around. The scarecrow, who was at the pumpkin patch side, had loads of lame, dad-joke styled jokes which were pretty funny, and then we started finding our pumpkins. Cammas Hall has a bunch of different types of pumpkins and some charts that tell you their names, as well as a photo wall. We ended up picking some big pumpkins and small pumpkins. All of their pumpkins are sold by weight and there are wagons to help you bring them around. We settled on four, including a huge white one Amelia picked out, a small orange one Robin picked out, and after a lot of deliberation and speculation on carving techniques, Kai went with a medium orange one. Dann and I picked a flat, disk-like red one that looked pretty cool.

Cammas Hall also has a selection of different gourds inside the pumpkin patch, and loads of carving kits, Halloween cookies and costume-related items inside, where you need to pay. From there, we decided to purchase tickets for the Corn Maize – which aren’t included in the Halloween ticket, but you do get a discount if you have a Halloween ticket! These were pretty cheap though, and included a bunch of stickers with the option to win some sweets. Cammas Hall has not one but two corn maizes – one massive maze that can take up to two hours, and a smaller maize for those short on time.

We started with the large maize, which was really big! There are signs around to help you if you get lost, but otherwise it’s down to you finding your way. Our objective for this maize was to find signs with various creatures heads on them, and then put their heads on their numbered body along with their name. One head and name would not be used, and that’s the answer we needed to get our sweets! Along with these signs, there were Halloween themed jokes dotted around, which the kids really enjoyed reading off. There are two massive bridges on this maize, which are really fun to stand on and see everything from! You also end up walking under them a few times. This place was quite muddy, so we would recommend bringing boots!

The small maize, which can be done through the back of your sheet, also uses stickers. This time, you need to look for signs that tell you either what monster goes on what letter or what junction goes on the road. These junction stickers are a bit complicated to find and place – but you can also do the whole maize through looking at the picture and figuring out where they go based on the lines on them, which is an interesting idea. We ended up completing this maize quite quickly, as it was a smaller maize inside of the larger one – but it is a very good option for those limited on time or with children who don’t want to be out so long. Cammas Hall has also set up a photo area, with a big painting, but by the time we were done with the maize it had started to rain a bit so we decided to skip this photo place and head back home, prizes in hand.

Cammas Hall has done a lot with their Halloween festival this year – we really liked the spooky walk and especially the characters along it. The maizes were impressive in size and in the amount of signs and stickers you can do in each one. It’s a really fun time for the family, so do consider getting a ticket!
