When driving somewhere, we saw a giant tree full of lights on the way. Our children wanted to go see it, so I started looking at what exactly this huge, peaking over the fence, light up tree actually was! It turns out, The Tall Twinkling Tree is the name of the place, and there is a lot more than the tree you can see from the road – you can actually book up an experience to meet Santa and tell him your Christmas wish. We had not met Santa yet, so decided to book it up.

A Day Out at Enlightened Colchester Castle
We aim to get to at least one lights trail with our children this time of year! It’s been a tradition for so many years, that we are running out of new light trails to take them too! Enlightened has a few different locations and is one of the first light trails we took them too, at Hyde Park. This is probably our favorite children-focused light trail, due to all of the interactive elements and children’s themed elements along the trail. This year, we went to Enlightened Colchester Castle, which was as amazing as expected!

Dick Whittington – a fabulous panto
[Ad- gifted experience] I am going to start this off by saying, as an American who lives in England, I have never actually gone to a panto. I didn’t really knew what one was, going into this, but here we are! Dann and I went along to Dick Whittington, a wonderful, fun, zany panto that is good fun for the whole family! I was truly impressed by both the actors within this performance and the British population, who all seemed to know exactly when to take part in this performance.
Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham – Christmas Adventures
Dann is a huge fan of Christmas Markets and I am a huge fan of themed-limited time events. So when Dann said “hey, do you want to go to the Frankfurt Christmas Market Birmingham this evening”, despite living about 3 hours away, I was well up for the adventure! We’ve been to Christmas Markets before, but hadn’t made it to this specific market, which states that it’s very German inspired.

The Snow Queen at the Polka Theatre
[Ad- gifted experience] The Polka Theatre is our favorite children’s theatre to attend! We’ve been there quite a few times over the years – and it’s really designed with little ones in mind. There is a dress up area, a bunch of toys, and a reading area while you are waiting for your show to start. There is also an outdoor play area enclosed, and a cafe. We’ve loved exploring this area over the years and feel it really creates such a great atmosphere and makes this theatre feel like a community hub!
