Family Dinner at Ole Rochester

While going to an event in Rochester, we wanted to go out for a nice meal! Dann got to picking a location, and as I had just gotten back from Madrid, he figured having a bunch of Spanish food would be fun. Dann’s grandmother is Spanish, so he had Spanish food growing up, however we don’t make much Spanish food and often don’t eat it. Dann excitedly selected Ole Rochester and it was a fantastic decision.

Family Dinner at Gonzos Tea Room

At the end of May, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary of being a family. Five years feels impossibly long, and we spent a lot of time this year reflecting on our lives. One of the things Dann and I wanted to do was re-visit our first family outing. You see, the first time we went out as a family unit, we went to the Norwich Gaming Festival and then had dinner at Gonzos Tea Room! At the time, Robin was so little that she didn’t really eat (nor does she remember much of it), where as Kai and Amelia had a very limited pallet. Going back with them being so much older was such a fantastic time and the food did not disappoint!

Harlow Chinese School Cooking Course – Sesame Prawn Toast and Satay Sticks

Dann and I absolutely have loved the last few cooking classes we attended at the Harlow Chinese School! This was the last cooking course for the school year, so we were excited to learn how to make some Sesame Prawn Toast and Satay Sticks – and there were some surprise side dishes that we got to have as well. This cooking course is really casual with a big focus on fun and exploring new foods. Sesame Prawn Toast and Chicken Satay Sticks are really classic party food in England, so it was fun to make our own.

Lunch at Gilpin Spice – pan-Asian food

While on our anniversary in the Lakes, we always are looking for fun food to try. We both really enjoy Asian food, so on the more rainy day, we decided to go for a big lunch at Gilpin Spice, which is a restaurant attached to a hotel. You do not need to be staying at the hotel to eat here and can easily walk in and enjoy the menu that they have on offer. When we went, at about 1pm, it wasn’t too busy at all. The venue itself had bar seating that looked straight into the kitchen, as well as a bunch of tables and booths. We opted to watch the chefs cook our food! They do have a short menu at Gilpin Spice, but everything smells and tastes fantastic.
