For Dann’s Birthday, he wanted to play a specific type of arcade machine. Bishi Bashi machines were something we’ve played a few times in our lives, at places that are now closed down in London. In search of a fun arcade machine, and a lovely day out that everyone would enjoy, we ended up at Freeplay City, a pay to enter arcade with tons of rhythm-based games that can keep kids and adults engaged.
We have gone to a lot of winter light trails this year, but even as the Christmas season has ended, there are still some open! We wanted to go out to a Christmas market for dinner and see a light trail, so we made our way to Blenheim Palace. Dann and I went on a date night there a few years back and really enjoyed it, so we figured it would be fun to take our children as they don’t care about the longer drives. Blenheim Palace has a few features, all with different ticket prices. The market itself is free, but you can pay to go on the light trail, go inside the Neverland themed-palace and to go ice skating. After talking it over with everyone, they declared they didn’t want to ice skate or go in the palace, so we went for the food and trail.
Dann and I go to Germany each and every year, specifically to Cologne, for Gamescom as apart of our day jobs. We’ve basically done everything we could possibly go or so we thought! This year, Dann surprised me by finding a new place; Katzentempel Koln, which is a vegan cat cafe, right in Cologne. I absolutely love cat cafes and have been to a few in London. You do not need to pre-book, so we went along in the afternoon during one of the days we were there.
After going to Coventry Market with our kids, they asked about going to another Christmas market. London always feels so busy this time of year, so we decided to go back to the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham, which Dann and I remember as being one of the best, as we went last year on a double date. When we arrived in Birmingham, we actually walked through a smaller Cathedral Square Church Market, making our way to Frankfurt Christmas Market, which we returned back too.
[Ad- gifted experience] We’ve seen Cinderella previously, but when it comes to pantos, it’s always a little bit different! Cinderella at Centenary Theatre Berkhamsted featured Rupaul’s Drag Race star Veronica Green – and as fans of the show, Dann and I were pretty excited to see her on stage along with the rest of the cast. Cinderella followed the classic fairy tale story, but of course, had lots of silly panto moments, more recent songs including one from Wicked, and a lot of fantastic dance numbers.
